another ballast question

if i get a 400w ballast do i have to get a different socket for my light or can i use my same one i have been using for my 250watt...it came pre wired into my vented hood.????

Do NOT stick a 400w bulb in a 250 ballast. You CAN stick a 250 in a 400w ballast and it will ignite but I do not know the long-term side effects, or how efficient it is.... It's up to you but I would highly recommend you stick with the same wattage ballast to avoid and unforeseen complications.

EDIT: Sorry I am high misunderstood Q, you can use the same 'socket' if its wattage limit is enough, most quality sockets are made to up to 1,000 watts, but you never know. Post your model up here or try and find it on the socket itself, mine actually says "1000 watt socket".

If you can fit the 400W bulb into the socket because they are both the same type of threads, yes you can do that, ese.
