An unfortunate turn of events

So some guy breaks into a house, and the cops get called. The cops show up, the guy runs, the cops chase him into my neighbor's backyard where they arrest the guy AND they find several big plants in my neighbor's backyard.

Then they entered the house, found hanging plants, cash, scales, etc. Charged with cultivation, intent to sell.

I don't know the guy personally, but we do have a mutual friend and I hear he is fucked. I feel for him; That is a shitty way to get busted.

BUT - Knowing this neighborhood - He was an idiot for having plants outside. I don't know what he was thinking, but still hate to see that happen to anyone. He is looking at serious time.

that's major BS man, I hope the guy gets off and doesn't do any time. Ridiculous. I'd find the guy who ran in my backyard and mess him up. Don't they need a warrant? How'd they know they were plants at night time? Batten down the hatches

Well now another neighbor told me a different version of the story ... lots of hearsay going on apparently ...

Neighbor #2 said it was the house where the plants were that was being broken into, the cops chased him around the house into the backyard where they found over 60 plants.

Sounds like the burglar might have been a ripper? Who knows.

Either way, that's a shitty way to get busted.

what kind of neighbourhood do you live in ?

Suburban. 15 minutes outside of a midsized city. About a thousand residents. The entire neighborhood would fit in Disneyland's parking lot. Basically no crime. The cops patrol 24 hours a day. I see them drive by 10 times a day. At night they even shine lights between houses just looking for something to do. It must be the most boring police work ever.

But I only live here temporarily as it's actually my grandmother's house. She is currently on hospice, dying from Parkinson's, and I have been here for a while doing what I can to help her.

She's lived in the house my entire life though, so I know the area well.

yup, real shitty way to get busted, when he gets outta jail he'll probably remember to keep his mouth shut about his grows.

unless of course this ripper was an 'all knowing' clairvoyant.

somebody opened their mouth. if an outdoor garden had been spotted then the ripper(s) focus would be on the outdoor plants, the risk/return of breaking into a home hoping to find weed (when you've already spotted it outside) doesn't make sense; (is the owner sleeping inside w/a gun? is there a dog inside? is the home alarmed or booby trapped?), the ripper knew what he was up against beforehand.

I had a work van back in the 80s I'd keep chock full of expensive leather goods I'd take to the flea market, but if you peaked into the van when parked on a Yonkers or Mount Vernon street you'd see a few painters drop cloths, a step ladder, brushes & rollers. Thieves are lazy shiftless fucks, not a single one ever broke into my van to steal hand tools.

you can take that to the friggin' bank.

subterfuge, get you some today.......
