But if a veteran asshole is able to deter new people entering the hobby, they are not dedicated enough.
Many great masters are assholes in every hobby/art/etc. Some of the greatest musicians are assholes, still people make new music.
In my opinion it is of course related, the personality and the skills, but we should be able to make a distinction between the two if we are to appreciate some things.
