an idea

at the last cup i was a judge. i found the task to be realy difficult because there were so many weeds. one of the problems was how to judge the high, as compared to what? the most i thought i could do was judge it on strength for the most part because there was alot to smoke so you had to rush thru.
i didnt feel doing that realy did the weed or the grower justice.

what my idea was is this, i know you break it down into indicas and sativas, but maybe you should have a small description of the high its supposed to produce, for instance, maybe its not devistation in a bag but a trip in the grass, or the social weed of the year or somthing... you wouldnt have the give it a name and not only would it give us somthing to more fairly judge the weed with but also help plan out a daily schedual instead of getting that heavy one 2nd j of the morning. (not that im complaining ;) i doubt ill judge this year tho, i'll leave it to the ones with a few lungs to spare.

Good idea. I second the notion. I would love to for there to be an anti-anxiety category... that would be sweet.

Well when I judge cannabis in situations such as this, I focus on other aspects than the high/stone.
Things which I beleive are more related to the grower skills.
ie.
TASTE and duration of flavour.
How the cannabis smells and very importantly how it burns/smokes. does it burn nicely/evenly, is the ash smooth or chunky is white grey or black.
is it a pleasure to smoke or is it work.
does it bother my lips, tongue, throat or lungs. is the smoke hot or warm or even noticeable.
the appearance (trimming,leaf calyx ratio)
i think these things are better to judge, cause these are controlled by the grower.

Also I shouldn't have to pay attention to the effect, it should be very clear. but this is more a judgement on the strain.

Many growers are searching for there own preferences and many of us smoke for different effects. some look for anti-anxiety, some want their pain dulled, some want their mind to leave their head, some want a turbo boost.
so its very subjective, thus for many rather inaccurate.

Hi Alex.

Hi Alex.

I agree with TF, Hi you doing TF? In situations such as these Taste, smell and apperance as well as burn will dictate your winner. You weed could be potent as hell but if it dosen't forfill many of the above you have an uphill battle.

Yes some good points made here. There are already some changes planned for judging of the 2006 Cup. Such as, judges specifically for hash....so we will have Hash Judges. Am also contemplating the idea of having Mostly Sativa Judges and Mostly Indica Judges, this should permit more judges to take part and to participate in what they wish, mostly sativa or mostly indica, rather than a combination of both. But all this is still in the planning stages, so no official word yet. We will continue with blind judging, that will not change.

great points. splitting it up would deffinatly help. i do agree with you TF, it was just with so many entrys i felt a bit overwhelmed and didnt know where to start realy, that and a few times i know i got a heavy powerhouse smoke followed by a different lighter smoke and i felt like i wasnt giving it the proper attention. i may know what im looking for in a high, but sometimes i was just too numb to feel it. tho that was prolly the weather ;)

some good ideas here shud make for an even more accurate judging....great thread AlexS
i mainly went by taste, smell and a perfect burn isnt always on my list but it gotta be good still also how interesting the was more than the actual potency is a way i measure how much i like a smoke... :2cents:

 Mostly Sativa Judge and Mostly Indica Judge is a great thought Dutch! The Mrs and I keep tossing the idea around, and tho I've had the pleasure of many hash evenings she hasn't. And our smoke of choice the past few years has been Neville's, she has deep problems with paranoia Indicas and thier couch lock. In short, we like to accent our thoughts and feelings with dear friends, hard to do if we are numbed to the couch. :pointlaug Some couples like wine, others beer or whiskey.

The way inflation is eating away at our nest eggs I think we'll be lucky to even make it much less worry about pass prices, we shall see. Hopefully all that want to attend will be able to do so and it will be a great time had for all.
