Quick review of my recent A'dam trip.
So I just popped accross to Amsterdam for a few days so I could catch a Sigur Ros gig at the Paradiso and thought I'd post a quick report. This is my 14th or 15th trip to the dam in the last 15 years or so. First things first - The Paradiso is an amazing venue - if you can, GO! The Dutch crowd had the coolest, most polite attitude and having a room where you can smoke weed to your hearts content before the gig was refreshing. And Sigur Ros... i n c r e d i b l e ! ! ! !
Anyway - to the smoke....
Grasshopper - 1g (maybe 1.4) Kali Mist - Euro 20 - Just a tradition of mine to head here and it was early and raining and we wanted to people watch behind a protecive force field. It was crystally and good weed, but obviously horrendously overpriced. Nice clear head high, no burnout, medium duration.
That coffeeshop in Liedseplein with the pool tables and the internet with the glass door to go into the smoking room - Cheese, Ak47 (indica) - creepy old pony tail guy selling weed and leering at all the girls. Seemed to know nothing about the weed and resented being asked, but to be fair the cheese was great and the AK didn't keep me up all night like I half expected, so really not too bad. Reasonably priced. The Cheese was fruity with a mouth coating flavor and happy light stoned effect with good energy. Good social weed. The AK was pretty standard, supposedly pure indica (usually sativa in my experience) but felt pretty light. Not bad, but not as hard hitting as I'd hoped.
Grey area - Exodus Cheese, Casey Jones. Ok, I know Grey Area fairly well and have never had weed from them that was so bereft of crystals. It looked well and truly tumbled. Now this is tourist season and there was a queue out of the door of 99% tourists buying religiously from the skinny American dealer guy. So I sorta see why they did it - just because they could. But I wish they hadn't. Exodus cheese was meh, casey jones was very long lasting with a twitchy, trippy edge to it and lovely sour diesel taste but lacking in initial punch and enjoyment factor.
Special mention to Betty Too as a really nice friendly place that didn't require me to buy some of their weed.
Actually this is something that I came accross again and again - coffeeshops that were empty and then refused to serve me drinks unless I bought their weed. I know it was the height of tourist season, but when you don't have any custom maybe you shouldn't be so picky. Media Cafe and several others seem to have adopted this policy. I avoided places that had such a greedy and weed pushing attitude.
I smoked pure joints and pipes the entire time and never got above 8 in the stone-o-meter. This was pretty nice as I was doing things that required a little cognitive function, but I could imagine if I'd been looking to get smashed it might be hard to find weed that fits the bill. I got home, had 1 bong hit, and was reminded what quality weed is.
Ok. Hope this helps someone out there. Smoke on peeps.
