I thought the lyrics Don McLean's American Pie, has gone too cheap
$us1.6 mil. very cheap so whats your bid?

say $100.000 every year since '72 (43 years) sounds good = $us4,300,000

The original manuscript of Don McLean's American Pie has sold for $1.2m (£806,000) at a New York auction.

The 16-page draft had been expected to fetch as much as $1.5m (£1m) at the Christie's sale.

McLean had hinted in February the original manuscript would reveal the song's lyrical meaning - which had always been kept a mystery.

"The writing and the lyrics will divulge everything there is to divulge," he said.

The 69-year-old previously acknowledged the beginning of the song is about the death of Buddy Holly,
Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper - Jiles P Richardson - in a plane crash,
but has remained elusive about the rest of the track.

That song also references Bob Dylan (Mr. Hughes wearing Dylan shoes), John and Yoko (Yoko brought a Walrus/There was magic in the air), and Sgt. Peppers (The Marching Band refused to yield- a reference to the fact that Sgt. Pepper was on the charts for so long.)

It's also got Janis Joplin (I met a girl who sang the Blues/I asked her for some happy news/She just smiled and turned away).

So, I just saved you $1.2 mil. You're welcome.

edit* Also, duh, the big POT reference in American Pie-

The half-time air was sweet perfume/ While Sergeant's played a marching tune

I see more Nick Nolte in that photo, but hey old dude is old dude.
Personally, I hate that song. When I was a kid my crazy drunk Uncle bought the album the day it came out and played it non-stop for an entire night and day. We kids were trapped in the house with our bonzo parental units who found the song a real foot tapper.
Just last night, I was watching David Letterman with my wife and John Mayer comes out and starts to sing THAT friggin' song.
OK maybe I have some baggage with that tune.
If I had the means I would have out bid everyone just to use it to wipe my ... well you catch my drift.
Carry on
DC

p.s. Everything I say is to be taken lightly, but I do HATE that song, if I hadn't made the point clear enough.
If I could tase people through the tube I would have downed him before the first chorus.

I always thought the song sucked, ever since it came out when I was in high school...

There was SOOO much other great music to listen to at the time.
I was listening to Jefferson Airplane and Crosby, Stills & Nash and the Who and Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd and the Animals and Fleetwood Mac and Canned Heat, etc., etc.

So what if it had hidden meanings in it, there was so much better music to listen to back then...

The song wasn't worth a penny to me....Just my humble opinion....

as long as you get it, bro.

if not, it's basically a compilation of evidences that the united states is a "managed" society. smoke a fatty, look for the youtube videos with lots of newspaper articles, photos and shit in them..

it is not saying oh look how sad the plane crashed, i drove my truck around, listen to more great music and be entertained.

but, you can play that shit enough times that it wouldn't mean shit no matter what it said.
