Am I rootbound??

Ok. I fear that I am rootbound, it seems like every couple of days new leaves are dying and falling off one of my bigger plants.

It is outdoor I feed with every watering using rez's recipe, if you don't know what I'm talking about here's the link to the nutrient regiment I have chosen http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=81674&highlight=recipe+rez.
I haven't followed it exactly just because I am outdoors so the days and weeks are off, just trying to figure when to drop the micro...

Really, I'm 99% that I am root bound or at least pretty close to it. My real question is will my yield suffer if I don't transplant? Or should I just leave it as is and don't fuck around? It does seem to be slower in the flowering stage than my other plant but they are different strains so who knows.

The strain is C4, popped from a seed I got from a batch of C4 so that's what I'm calling it. It is in a 7 gallon container, and not even filled to the top.. I think I didn't to the best job when I transplanted everything the first time, should have gone bigger. I think I have given enough information if there's anything I left out please let me know, and thanks for helping!!

here the pics.

This is the plant in full, about 5 1/2 feet or so from bottom of pot to top, maybe a little taller.

Here are some shots of the lower leaves dying.
Sorry not much space down here to take pictures so bear with me, and it doesn't help that I suck when it comes to photography.

If it was up to me I think I would cut the bottom off and place in another pot for the least amount of shock, but I'd rather not if it's not a huge problem. Any advice guys?? Thank you all in advance! Much Respect!!

Oh yea here are a couple flower pics of the one in question

Sorry I don't know why or how but I made two threads on accident. I don't think I can delete a thread I made so if a mod would like to delete the other one for me that would be fine.

It's most likely to be rootbound, but the leaves are not cupping down characteristically yet.
I would certainly cut the bottom and first few inches of that pot off and set it slightly into a larger pot of fresh soil. If you have another set of hands to help, it will make the job easier.

It can only help it to put it in a larger pot with some more dirt.
Or, in the ground.

It won't hurt it. Just slip the old out and into the new. Don't disturb the roots much.
You could take a look at your situation now if you wanted.

A good TransPlant can't hurt, the summer is not near done yet....!

You can always check, by waiting until the soil is dry-ish, and popping the whole Unit out to check the status of the roots. In fact, if it comes out easily, odds are you need to Transplant. If the top of the soil surface is compacted, again, another indication that a transplant is in order... Rootie-Tootie (as I call 'em) plants get stressed, yield less, are harder to water, take on Mildew, and all sorts of problems.

Good luck...!

Thanks for the advice guys. Gunna bust it out tomorrow morning before the sun gets 'em! Will probably end up transplanting the other three because they look to be on the same route as the one in question. Crap.

it would be nice to put it where it most root bound at on bottom obviousley just as stinkyattic stated but you also must remmber that larger fan leaf's will drop as flowering goes on but there is no way you could hurt anything buy transplanting and thats highly recommended just dont get dirt on the buds thats all i was here for............ anyways hope its great smoke it looks like its doing welll

If you don't want to transplant, I'd try to get a container larger than the pot it's in and fill the container with your nutes, letting the medium fully saturate and force all gases out. This lets you get the absolute most out of your water holding capacity.

One can tell also that one is rootie-tootie if the leaves curl, REGARDLESS of what you pour. And usually, immediately after pouring this shows... Even temp-controlled plain water, pH'd correctly at 6.4-6.5, if it still curls the leaves, it is probably ready for a new home.

Really, IMHO, leaves should never just fall off on their own accord. Yellow up in late flower, yes, but not fall off. Never happens in my garden, and my garden is by no means perfect. Beautiful, but not perfect.

A transplant is a PITA, I know, imagine me, tp'ing 15 gallon root mass into a 25 gallon, singlehandedly... Or into a 30g... After a few of those I say, "Whoa, That's heavy," and I sweat like a swine when I have to do it.... But your babies will smile at you for doing it.

Ok I did it... But I think I might have goofed on adding dolomite lime to the new soil. I figured keep everything the same, just promix and a little lime. BUT I didn't think about the fact that I'm probably only about 45 or so days away I hope my roots can use up the calcium and magnesium in the lime before I begin to flush.

It'll probably be okay. I hope! I don't want it to taste like a bag of rocks!

Thanks for all the help!!

Hey thanks Bounty that sounds like good advice! Something I would think any pot should get full of roots or not.

I was in a similar situation about a week ago, under the advice of this board I transplanted and the results seem good to me :joint:
