Am I retarded? (Calibration problems)

So I just got my Control Wizard 24/7 ph/tds/temp moniter in the mail from nehydro.com and I can't get the damn thing calibrated.

I started with ph as the thing told me my tap water was 8.9. I adjust down with the 7 solution and the 7 screw to seven then up with the 4's then down with the 7's then up with the 4's, and so on and so on until I can no longer turn the 4 screw any higher and I'm stuck with the thing reading 7 in the seven solution and 3.4 in the four solution. I back the screws off and try again only to end up in the same place fifteen minutes later. Then I try again with fresh solutions and distilled water...same problem.

And Also, when I dunk the tds probe in the 1382ppm solution it read 014 (x10 it says so 140 ppm). I try to adjust the tds up and that screw tops out at 066 (660ppm), a long way from the 138 I'm looking for.

I'm following the one page instructions to the letter including rinsing with distilled water. Is it possible my solutions are bunk or contaminated? Or was there a reason Nehydro was selling this thing for $139 when everyone else wanted $170 or more?

anyway, I'm baffled, if anyone is familiar with these monitors or these problems your input is appreciated.

Oh and after all that, this is the second time I wrote this post. The first time my connection went south right before I pushed send!

So I gues ph calibration is just harder than it sounds because I finally got it. Turns out my 1382 fluid was not actually 1382 somehow. When I bought new 1382 is calibrated right up. So problem solved I guess

no, but i must be!

no, but i must be!

i too am having a difficult time calibrating my pH meter...

Milwaukee...ph51 here...

changed batteries...calibrated with 7.01, then 4.01...can't seem to get it right. :bashhead: :bashhead: :bashhead:

cleaned electrode, and tried to calibrate again, same result...its like i can't trim out the adjustment any further to get it to the calibration point...(does that make any sense?)!!

that sounds exactly like my problem...

that sounds exactly like my problem...

...it seems to me as thought the 7 screw sets the overall value and the 4 screw sets the difference between the two, what finally fixed it for me was backing the 4 screw way off (almost all the way) and then recalibrating via the 7 fluid and 7 screw, when I checked the 4 fluid It was amost dead on and I made a .1 adjustment and it seems to be working now as it has read both fluids correctly repeatedly. I think if you adjust past a certain point it becomes impossible to dial in as you are actually moving away from your target somehow

So try backing that 4 waaaay off and starting over with 7.

I'm glad I'm not the only one getting played by a $150 machine.
