Alternate setup idea

My friend and I were smoking some superb sativa strain and we came up with the idea of building a large sort of cab underneath a large bed (queen or king sized). It would be about a meter of vertical space, and run 4 250 Watt lights with very short plants in a SOG or SCROG system. Is this idea practical assuming that there is plenty of ventilation and the gardener is highly skilled at working with / training plants? A 250 can cover a 2.5 x 2.5 foot area, and due to it's low heat can be put MAD close to plants (I have a 250 halide and it hardly generates heat and since they are the same wattage I'm guessing their heat output is similar). So, could this work??

Peace out,

why dont u put 1 vertical 1000w and all plants around it?
or u can put it in center and make 2 vertical scrogs from up and down.

thats smth that i ve thought in the past for my self ;)

The reason I'm trying to avoid the high wattage lights is the vertical space limitation in this configuration. Also, the heat from a 1000W is a SERIOUS pain in the ass to dissipate. Remember, I have about one meter vertical (3.25 - 3.5 feet).

thats why i said vertical and not horizontial grow.

meaning, that the lamp will be next to the plants NOT OVER THE PLANTS

the lightning source will be next to the main stem (they get super bushy that way)

so the plants will have 1m to grow upwards, but that doesnt mind anyway cause the main development will be sideways, as for the heating a cooltube with a "power fan" will suck everything from there. (u want more, put 1more to blow in the place...)

now do u get the picture?

Yes I get the picture. It would seem to me however that one would need more actual bulbs in this configuration as the verticals wouldn't be able to cover as many plants. I think I calculated 9 plants per 250 if mounted horizontally. I'm pretty sure the cool tube idea would be easy to implement I'm just not sure about how many lights the vertical would need vs. the horizontal. That is certainly an interesting idea though, and I'm certainly not going to rule it out at all.

Thanks greek.

[edit] one advantage to your system is that the plants would be able to grow taller and vertical space wouldn't be as much of a limitation.... I see now why you suggested it.

but as i said again,(or i think i did)

1 1000w lamp in center vertical in tube, 9 plants around it with all mylar behind em(as well roof+floor) so the unlimited 1000 light gets thrown back at them ;)
trust me it will be a lumen supernova :D

4x250 = 1000w

but the lumens...

i would go with 1 10 pack of feminized seeds

so u can organize space perfectlly

shity picture but, u see this were grown vertically 100%

Well I could always use a ladder ;-). I have decided though I'm going to get rid of my sketchy ass setup and build two nice large 600 W cabinets, and line the outside with nice wood, stain it, make it look gorgeous. Right now I have something VERY similar to the structure Jorge Cervantes built in the Ultimate Grow DVD (1), which is basically a 2x3 [edit] (built of 2x3s) frame and then mylar. Ive looked into the 250s and I am not pleased at their light penetration for plants vegged more than a week, and I like the results and the lumens / w efficiency of the 600s. Thanks for all the responses, and the vertical thing I might consider when I move and have more space to work (If I'm going to do it I will be damn sure to do it right). Greek, how much do you yield from 9 plants in the vertical 1000 system?
