Check into the brand The good life recipe. My cat and dog love it and its not made by menu foods. It contains rice and greens and has no fillers or any of the shit they put in the rset of the stuff out there. The parent company is mars yep the candy bar corp. Just thought I would share that. :joint:

I cook for my three dogs. I suppliment with a natural brand of food named Merrick.

What I cook is chicken breasts, thighs and wings. Cook up some brown rice and carrots maybe add some other veggies and mix it together.

They love it.

Mine eat Purina. That brand you mentioned is ok, but my animals---3 cats and a dog---didn't seem too impressed by it when we bought it. However, they LOVED that new Purina Naturals stuff (or whatever the hell it's called)

While that food seems okay, it looks like they put a lot of money into marketing the product rather then spending the money on higher quality ingredients.

I went to the website and tried finding a list of ingredients and I'll be damned if I could find it. This makes me very suspicious of what they put in it. In other words, if they were proud of what they used, they'd clearly advertise it.
I did some more searching and found out they use a grains and corn as a main ingredient (as protein), and as you may or may not know, this is much harder to digest and has a poorer amino acid profile then something like lamb or beef or salmon.

As a rule of thumb, make sure the food you're feeding has the first ingredient (highest quantity/percentage) of meat. I really like lamb because less animals are allergic to it (most allergies are chicken), and it's oily which is good for their coats.
As for carbohydrate, try finding ones with whole grains such as whole brown rice, whole barley, whole rye, etc..
It's also nice if they include a good quality source of omega 3, 6, and 9, such as sunflower oil or flaxseed oil.
I usually give my dog a table spoon of organic flaxseed oil every other day in his food. His coat is amazing!

I won't go into any more detail 'cause you all will think I'm a complete nutter!
You get so much out of your animal and I think it really shows when you feed them the best food you can afford. They'll live longer and healthier lives, giving you more happiness. It's really a win win situation.

Thanks for starting the discussion Haze,
JC

i would recommend not cooking chicken bones before giving them to ur dogs to eat...once cooked chicken bones splinter and bad things can happen on the way through fido...raw chicken bones break cleanly when bitten through and pass through the system more easily...as long as the chicken is fresh salmonella is not an issue b/c food doesn't remain in a dog's stomach long enough for it to make them sick (obviously if some shit is really off then the dog will still get sick but generally speaking its not a big deal)...

my dog refused to eat the tainted case of food that i bought for him to try, at first i was like, "wtf?", then i was like, "that food is fucked up"...then i didn't think about it for a couple of months and i started hearing about pets dying and i looked it up and the shit was on the list...smart dog...

its good that you guys are trying to find the best dog food, but you have to remember that the best food will always be the stuff we eat. when im shopping i always buy extra vegetables and meat and just give it to them, most dog food is stuff that didn't qualify for human consumption. also dog food is frequently very old and sometimes moldy, fresh food is always better...

Alot of vitamins are lost in cooking. You should feed those things raw, besides the rice that is. :yummy:

My dogs eat a raw diet. They eat raw and meaty bones as well. A typical meal might consist of raw chicken necks, green tripe, and maybe some veggies. I mix up the meats but they're always raw.

He ate a big SSH nug :yoinks: and I guess he was not happy with that! But, my cat will nibble and lick the buds if he come across them so I can never leave out any ganja. I love animals, sometimes I think they are a lot better than people :chin:
