Algae

Hey guys. I'm starting some seedlings in clear plastic cups in LC's organic mix (promix, worm castings, perlite) and they are about a week in now.

I have noticed that some of the perlite is getting a green colour that I assume is algae. I also noticed further down in some of the cups there seem to be some small patches of this forming.

I know clear cups can cause algae so I was stupid to use them but is there anything I can do to remedy this for the time being? Is it even a problem or is algae not a big deal?

I can make some paper sleeves for them or buy some darker cups to put the clear ones into but if the algae isn't gonna hurt them or if it isn't going to go away after it has already started then I don't see the point. Any opinions are greatly appreciated! thanks!

Homie...Light+ Standing water=Alge--
If you use the colored ones, not enough light gets in to grow alge-- Not to mention, roots do not like light--:yeahthats

EDIT** My bad...after I re-read this...you simply need to buy some pots-- Don't use cups, there is a reason that pots are opaque--(And they have drainage holes--)

yah I understand that the clear cups was kinda dumb on my part, but what Im wondering is whether its going to make any difference if I cover the cups now or is the algae there to stay now that it has established itself? Should this be a long term concern for me now that the algae is there or do you think it will go away once I transplant them into their flowering pots in a couple weeks?

Out of the slime, finally.

Buy some more colored cups this time. Slip the clear ones inside of the colored ones. The algae will die off and when you want to look at your roots just remove the colored cup.

Nice-- Gotta give you that one--
Peace--:joint:

EDIT** Except they look ready for a transplant anyway--

I covered the cups with some large yellow labels I have kinda like stickers, I'm sure they will still let some light through but I'm going to hope for the best. Thanks for the idea richyrich next time I will buy larger clear cups that fit into the red beer cups to get the best of both worlds :)
