Algae on perlite in FFOF soil

I use perlite in the bottom of propagation trays as an aid for rooted cloness. Durring this process the perlite gets the normal green algae...

Is this perlite/algae ok to use when mixing in soil?? Can it cause any type of rot or bacteria?

Just thought id ask... Trying to reuse and recycle what I can. Thanks.

The algae on that perlite won't cause any harm if you're mixing it into your soil medium.
Theres no need to fear it causing any bad microbes in the soil or on the plants grown in that soil. Algae cannot live if it does not have a light source. Underground it will die off and decay into the soil with no harm done.

I'd dry it real well, it will kill the alge so that you don't add a thriving community to your soil; and it will get the dead bodies ready for the next phase - all in all, it a win-win

I have the same problem with algae, perlite and ffof. I just let the soil dry out well between waterings and no more algae.

Try cuttin yer FF-OF with 30 % pelite,it wont stay wet enough for algea to grow on it at all(if ya have plenty of drain holes) + it adds a ton of air to the root zone, makes'em grow like crazy! Just a thought...Take care BC

Thanks guys... yeah this is actually the perlite that sits under 24 hr light in my cuttings tray... but i wanted to re-use it by mixing it in my soil... I feel better about using it now, i was just worried about the algae being mixed into the soil and if it would cause any harm to the transplanted plants... Thanks again ~caddy
