airstones

im sick of messing with them every 3 weeks, anyone ever mess with the expensive ones, do they work longer or do they still need to be cleaned every three weeks too, is there a way i could just make a ring with an air line and poke pin holes in it or something

i been using the same walmart strip airstone for a while now, i bought some of those ones for 1.40 and they seem soft, are they clogging so bad they dont put out air?

yeap i can usally tell when the stones are not putting out enough air just by the plant health but for the first 2 weeks they are great just sucha pain to change them, cause i have quite a few

Avon: Sorry, i don't have any advice on good airstones, I am searching for the same thing but I had to say that your name cracked me up. I watched The Wire when it came out on HBO. Great series, well written. But anyways, apart from cracking up at the name, I have heard that there are clear ones that look like glass that don't clog nearly as easy but I heard that sort of second hand and wasn't really listening intently. So, grain of salt with that one.

I'm with mrred. What are you putting in your tank that's gunking things up? My grows run at least 4 months and a stone lasts 2-3 grows.

Try a boss hog XL micro pore air diffusor but make sure your pushing at least 37 lpm though it and it uses 3/8 inch air line instead of the regular kind since it has large air flow

well i use 1 large air pump im not sure about the flow rates but it uses 50 watts it goes into a manifold with 8 1/8 inch air lines and they flow tons of air when the stones are fresh, but after a few weeks they go to nuthin or just tiny bubbles, i run gh nutes lucas formula only about 800 ppm for my moms

You don't need no stinking air stones, hehe, just tape the tube down with duct tape and you are good. I have used this for over three years, works great.

airstoneless works

if you still want an airstone go quality with a SweetWater airstone. They are ceramic diffusers..work well and hold up.

or check out silicone diffuser hose and make something like this. (expensive stuff)
Not my photo.. another user's on icmag. www.alita.com The silicone hose will require a decent pump to drive these, but they are impossible to clog and the aeration they put out is amazing - way superior to any airstone.

The true purpose of stones is stealth. They're quieter than an open line. If stealth isn't an issue, Haps' is a great solution. Surface turbulence is what gives us DO and a stone free line will get that surface rolling. If the noise presents no danger, no stone is needed.
