Don't waste money on air stones. They clog up and don't give you any more dissolved oxygen than you get from an open line. I run DWC indoors and stopped using air stones after a couple of side by side runs proved to me there is no advantage to using them. Forget 'em and don't look back.

Hmmm... well I do DTW, my waters usually cold even with a heater, and my plants look like they could use more oxygen, I thought it would help and think ill try a 8* with a little hydrofarm pump?

Ive just been running a pump and having it spill back into the res with minor splashing...definitely not good enough

It's my understanding, with fish tanks at least, that breaking the surface of the water allows more oxygen absorption from the air but oxygen absorption also occurs when bubbles are created (rather than when they float to the top) deep in the water which is why many smaller bubbles is better than fewer large ones.

I have started to make my own DWC bubbler buckets. I do not use air stones anymore i run an air line from the air pump to the top of the site glass tube and it also doubles as a drain tube. Saves money in the long run.
