Has anyone used these Air Pots in a CoCo run?

If so what are your likes dislikes about them. Did you notice a quicker growth ? Larger harvest ? Im interested.

several have. they work just fine, however as you can guess dry out very quickly.

I have not seen too much difference between my smart pots vs my air pots.

I do however prefer my smart pots for coco because they dont dry out as quick and sit lower then airpots.

I liked it alot. Did some GDP in 5 gallon airpots outdoors. 70/30 pearlite mix. My mom thought they were baby ornamental maple trees. got ripped 6 weeks early but boy did they look promosing.

After doing more reading it looks like the smart pot is more popular. It is a lot cheaper too.

Didn't know about the height difference that important.

I plan to run a 60/40 mix and do 3-4 waterings a during the day.

Another question was say I'm transplanting from a 1 gallon smart pot to a 3 gallon smart pot. Have you done this ?

Ornamental maple tree that's great! Sorry to hear about getting jacked. Another good reason to get a BIG dog.

We were on vacation that weekend. Doggie has to get a break sometimes also hehe.

As far as a transplanting smartpots I've seen the bottom cut out and just placed on top of the larger smart pots. I've never done this though just observed. But this could be a problem with with space depending on the height of the your setup.

ahhhh dont do this!! Just plant the 1 gallon straight into the 3 gallon pot :) Roots will gro through the fabric of the 1 gallon into the space of the 3 gallon just fine :)

I do however recommend soaking the 1gallin in some water, just enough to get wet. This way the roots kinda know where to go towards.

Also, this way u get to reuse your pots :)

air pots take up a lot of space, both vertically and horizontally. A 3 gallon airpot took as much space as a 5 gallon bucket almost! This is just due to how the pot works.

If you do decide to go with air pots, get some hydroton or something and fill a layer on the bottom about an inch or so. Also when you pack coco/soil in there, make sure you give the container a good shake and pressing down as there are a lof of nooks and crannies to fill up in there! If you dont you will gradually see your medium level drop and becoming weirdly uneven :)

And my last note if you decide to go with air pots, make sure the side with holes filled in is facing upwards, if you dont water will just dribble out as you water. The holes are plugged to keep water on top and not spilling out the sides!

I'd go with the smart pots over the air pots. I did a run with air pots and it was pretty messy. You need to pack the soil in or your gonna have water falls everywhere. Not worth it IMO. I'd love to give them a run in coco.

It's looking like I have to water my airpots every day where as normal pots was every other day.... Right pain in the ass as well as pocket nutrient wise.....

Can't comment on smart pots as I haven't used them....

Interesting so rather than removing the the 1 gallons just toss them in the 3 gallons. I plan on taking and areoed clone and dropping it in the 1 gallon smart pot for 2-3 weeks. I'm wondering if in the 2-3 weeks veg time if the root system will be developed enough where it is already blowing up the 1 gallon smart pot. If not I might just try a straight transplant.

After reading some post It sounds like I will be going with smart pots. They looks a lot easier to deal with and work with.

Thanks for the good info.

Yea looks like I am leaning toward smart pots now. The Air Pots just looked so interesting.

I plan to run a 60/40 on the CoCo so it is going to require 3-4 waters during lights ON. So no hand feeding for me. Thanks for the input and your :2cents:

Airpots, coco, and blumats! Ninjagarden hit every nail on the head with their post. Very good advice. Using all three in conjunction with one another makes it so you really don't need more than 2 gallon airpots. Even for trees.
Good luck with your quest!
