i saw a video of some guy growing parsley in a bucket filled with dirt and it had a layer of hydroton or rocks at the bottom of a clear pot and a hose connected to a airpump the wáter was bubbling out of the dirt at the base of the parsley

so is this hydro with dirt has anybody grown cannabis like this before

i asked the same question some time back - best answer i got was that some folks have played with injecting air into the soil - but couldn't turn anything up with the search function

i like the idea, and actually bought one of their packages. I'm thinking to try it in a side-by-side on my first grow, but won't be using the hydro part - i'm just thinking since the roots like O2, why not incorporate that spider ring into the soil under a layer of lava rock and run it when plant is watered or fed, and maybe a couple hours a day in between. My bud's grow just went thru a bout with root rot and trying to avoid that plus any other benefits to the soil and aerobic bacteria around the root mass. By the way, you could replicate that setup - the permeable liner they show to put over the lava rock and under the soil, looks exactly like the soft rubber mats Sears sells in the tool dept, to line mechanic's tool box drawers with, about 1/8" thick and fairly porous. I've actually got some plastic screen from the food industry for sifting flour that will work better.

the one thing i didn't like about their product was the clear or opaque pots, made me wonder how much thought had been put into their products - i don't think roots like light

Disney had an conveyor plant setup where the roots were hanging in the open and cycled through a mist/feeding box. so some roots don't seem to mind. there was pics of it once. in an over head grow the pot shouldn't be getting much light except from top so clear aint much of an issue IMHO. I have used 2 litre bottles many times in a pinch. just find homeless guy and give em a few bucks lol
