air cooling and lenses

Hey all...So im new to air cooling and i currrently have an 8" elicent ducted to my 600 w eurosystems hps without the lens as per the direction of the guy i bought it from . i am happy with the temperature of the hood and think the bulb is getting cooled awesomely yet i have noticed that the radiating heat is higher than last time when i simply had the lens in and had an oscillating fan on and the door open..Is this cuz the lens is out and if so, as i think is the case, should i put the lens back in? I picture more heat being contained with the lens in and thus removed. Sounds good to me.I dont think the suction would break the glass sooo whats a developing noob to do..Any help/opinion appreciated.

The air cooled hood will work much better with the glass in, which will also allow you to move the light closer to the plants. Best of luck

Agreed. The glass will absorb and block the heat even further, however it will also cut down slightly on lumens. Personally I'd say with the glass is still going to get closer, which = more lumens.

If you have a wide spread and don't need to get that close, then try it off for a few days, then on for a fews days. Note temp changes and go with whatever works best. If temps are close, then leave it out.

Man the guy who told you to remove it needs further training lol,the fan motor isnt designed to cool fixtures with such a huge "intake" lol, thats one big hole!Whats important is cleaning the lens every couple weeks, you will lose few par watts if you keep glass clean thats the trick
