Air cooling and carbon scrubbing on a budget??

Hey all  ,
Just needed some more info and some advice from all of the Genius's here at IC. I only have about $175-$200 and i need to aircool my 400 watt closet grow for the summer, or else its gonna be way toooo HOTT  I also need to handle the smells that will be flowing from said closet. .. I was planning on modding a stanley blower to pull air through the light, (hydrofarm Radiant reflector 400 watt MH/HPS) then i wanted to mod its out put to run it backwards through a carbon scrubber like this http://cgi.ebay.com/6-X-18-ACTIVATE...102110993QQcategoryZ43555QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Ive added up costs so far and they look somwhat like this:
-$110 for carbon scrubber
-$50 for stanley blower
-$20 hydrofarm radiant cooling kit
-$20 for miscelanious extras..... duct reducer and more flex duct....

So im looking at about $200 total cost for all of this, I was wondering if you think that this will be adequate to keep my closets temp's down to around 80 degrees. The flowering section of the closet is about 3'x3'x8' and this is the sectoin that im worried about. I grew in a closet similar to this last summer without good venthilation or a carbon scrubber and as a consequence my yeild suffered greatly :badday: .. The buds were amazing.. no doubt about that, but they were super fluffy and i only got about 3oz of good smoke from my summers work..(there were only 3 plants though...)

Im one of those people that works to learn from his mistakes. so i dont want this to happen again this summer. (I also understand that summer isnt the optimal season for indoor growing.. i dont have a choice though)

At the moment i have 11 seedlings ranging from 10-17 days old. They are under my 400 watt MH, all but 2 are in 16oz beer cups with FFOF soil with petrelite. When the youngest hits 2 weeks i wil transplant into 1 gal grow bags. I will be feeding with Earth Juice Grow and Earth Juice Bloom, as soon as they get a little bigger i will start feeding. They are all super healthey and are growing bigger and better than any seedlings i ever have had before. And i want to keep them this healthy....

So with all of this said, What can i do to keep down temps without spending any more $$$$.. This is the most economical way of controlling temps and smells in my opinion.

Do you think it will work??

If not what should i change??

Can i do it any cheaper?? How??

Any input is welcome!!

Thanks for looking and thanks for the info.... Oh yea sorry about the rambling.. when i talk about growing i just get sooooo excited :woohoo:

Again thanks..

P.S.- should have my diary started as soon as i get my friends camera to post pics.. thanks all

hey man, i feel confident that the stanley can keep the 400w in check but you have to get the hot air out of the closet. is it possible to locate the filter outside the closet and run the fan to it from the light as mentioned? also that filter is a lil small for that stanleys output so it may not be totally effective in smell removal but should cool well.

can you 'mod' the house.. aka can you cut holes through floors/ceilings and or walls?

I grow in a 2'x3x8'(H) closet and I have my light on a closed circuit .. ie ... I pull cool air in from under the house( you can pull it in from outside if ya want) and draw it across the bulb in a cool tube and then vent it out through the ceiling and attic and vent it out through the roof of the house using a vent stack... I use a vortex fan for this mounted in the attic but a stanley modded will be fine..if you cant mod the roof you can just vent it into the attic...

for odor control I would suggest a odor sok filter they are about 75$ for a 6" filter, mount another stanley modded fan and hang it on the ceiling of the grow this will run for odor control and to bring in fresh air to the grow...

so 50% x 2 for the fans
$75 for the Odor Sok filter

I dont know what the radiant coolng device you mention is so I cant comment on it

If you are looking to cool it more I suggest going with the DiY rez cooler made from a water cooler.... you can get one for 10-30 used around your town I am sure...

also you can use the extra heat to your advantage by adding co2

Hey Dopest Hey Ono, thanks for lookin in.

Dopest- Sup Dope, yea man i have a very large open attic above my whole house, i was planning on cutting a hole in the ceiling up into the attic and putting the carbon filter up there to dissapate the heat.

Ono- Whatup Ono, as i just stated yes i can mod the house, i will be cutting a hole up into the attic and placing the carbon scrubber up there. Do you guys think that i should maybe go for a 6" by 24" filter??? will that work better for killing the smell. To be dead honest with both of you guys im gonna be living in a duplex (on the top two floors out of 3) and i cant have the people living on the first floor be able to smell it. I would prefer if it didnt smell at all, would definitly do my heart some good :yoinks: .

Tell me what ya think, and as always thanks for your input!

also carbon dose not wrok as well with hot air. putting the filter first will solve that. also get a PRE filter and put it around your carbon filter for dust and stuff becuase it will also degrade your filter fast. you can clean a pre filter a few tiimes before getting another one. get a white one and watch it turn black!!

Look i made this pic to better help explain what i am trying to say. But i suck with the laptop and MSPaint so it dident come out so well. the air gose from the filter to the attic =)

This was made with a laptop fingerpad so plz dont comment on my SKILLS and the green squigals at the bottum are ware the plants go.

Whatup Global  ,

Thanks for the input bro, ive thought about pushing rather than pulling (through the light), and it sounds good. Im worried about how loud its gonna be just having the blower push air up into the attic.

Do you guys think it will be really loud???

I was planning on using the scrubber as a muffler also. Im just really parinoid i guess, i mean no one will be going into the attic except for me. Will i be able to hear it when im not in the attic??? I do agree that it would filter the smells better if i pulled through the carbon rather than push through.

Makes me think.....

Thanks for the input all, still looking for more!!
