Air cooled reflectors with heat reflecting glass?

There are a lot of air cooled reflectors but I was wondering why doesn't any of them use heat reflecting glass. This should keep 50% more of the heat inside the hood which will save you a lot of exhaust capacity.

Whats the reason they don't use this glass?

Cost probably. Xtrasun uses aluminum instead of steel in their mondo reflectors as well as bell lighting technology. This is the major source of heat radiation, the heat you can't get rid without using aluminum. You can put your hand on a xtrasun without any concern... try that with an aircooled radiant reflector.

Well the heat reflecting glass isnt much more expensive than heat tempered glass

I didnt know that aluminium reflectors also help to keep the heat inside.

Does aluminium absorb the infrared radiation better than steel?

You can remove it faster than steel just like a coke can, its easier to transfer heat from once its had added heat. Thus, aircooling is far more effective because once air moves across it the heat is moved with the air not held like a glowing cattle prod like steel reflectors. I always thought aircooled hoods with 4" holes was a dumb ass idea. Maybe for 400-600w club but definately not for 1kw.

How does the heat reflective glass work? it may work by blocking certain heat carrying light spectrums, and that may be bad for growing. not sure about anything, just an idea.

All I know is that it has a very thin metal-oxide layer which reflects infrared radiation.
