I would like to make my own air cooled hood for a 400 watt hps,I have some heat concerns, however i am thinking with the constant air flow to the outside it would stay relatively cool. What do you guys think?I want to use that 1 inch shiny white lamenant, and on the inside just line it with some mylar for reflectivity.Any thoughts?

Definitely dangerous. Like he said what if the fans go out? The mylar is plastic, the laminate is vinyl and the wood is filled with glues. All very flammable. Plus the weight would be outrageous.

cool...good ta hear...hope yer home when it all goes POOF !!!

jebus...askin for trouble

why dont you just get some aluminum coil stock and make a hood out of that?
it's lightweight , easy to work with and will not burn

good old MDF lol... if you want to make a ac reflector get some cheap sheet metal from a diy store and bend it yourself ... then for the sides use the same metal and tape together with aluminium tap (that stuff for putting up mylar its reflective and made from metal)and its heat resistant... all you need are some tin snips ,a drill with some metal bits and a bit of skill ....

Chongsbuddy, if you're going to do it don't use any plastics! Mylar is plastic. That white laminate is plastic. Plastic will melt and burn.

fuck man,.... his whole reflector will fucking burn dude!
Obviously this guys half a pack short...and NO amount of good advice is going to work

Just another thing for "THEM" to point a finger at & say "Do u see, this is why marijuana should not be legal....people will burn down their homes trying to grow it!!!"

chongsbuddy,, ur definatly playing for the wrong team! Please be responsible & work for "OUR" cause....NOT AGAINST IT! Are u really gwan possibly burn down ur home for a refelector? I see them only all of the time for way less than $100. Instead of taking a couple days to build that contraption....why don't u take a few days & go around to everyone at ur job/school & ask to borrow 50 cents from each person......iu'll have enuff $$ to buy a real reflector/hood in the same amount of time that it takes to build one.

dont give me "our cause" bullshit.I asked advise, what the fuck do you care if I take it or not. Thanks for the advise guys.As for you,you dipshit leave me the fuck alone!!All the advise was well advised and respected, but dont call names, thats just infantile,i mean...please.I also have NEVER seen a reflector for under 180 dollars. Some might be cheaper, but when you add shipping and what not it goes way up.Anyway,im having second thoughts about the hood anyway,im not stupid,i hooked it up and it was too hot.Im bummed because i cannot afford anything over 100 dollars.I guess ill make one out of metal.

Grandpa says, "Back in my day we were so poor we'd build reflectors out a wood and put lit candles on the christmas tree for decoration."

chongsbuddy, not exactly sure where all the attitude comes from. I said absolutly nothing disrescprectful towards you!!!!! You mayy wanna re-read this thread & see that there are other folks that came at you with sideways remarks......but I don't believe that I was 1 of them. If u took what I said as disrepectful & can point out what it was that was disrespectful towards YOU, then I will apologize but I think u'll be hard-pressed to find anything. As I recall, I gave you an idea of a way to get $$ to go towards a refelector.

ANyway, I truly hope that ur future presence here at IC Mag brings more positivity than that reply that u sent my way cuz kid shit should be left on a playground.

If u PM me, I would be more than happy to give u some online spots that sell all types of reflectors for way less than $100. If all "reflectors" that ur looking at are running $180 or more,as u said, then u must be looking at full light systems & not just the reflector/hood.

EZ!
