Air conditioner help

Hello . This is my first post here so greetings everyone.....

Air conditioners - what shall I do?

I have a grow tent which is 3 metres by 2 metres by 2 metres high.
This is actually within another room, so there is a few feet around each side of the grow tent.
Air is begin passively intaken into the tent from the room (I have the door slightly ajar) and the window is open in there. At night a fan draws fresh air in from the window.
The air from the tent is being exhausted upstairs to the loft.

My probelm is - obviously temps. I am hitting about 93 degrees (34'c) even with my adequate ventilation (the extractor fan is 1000m3 per hour, the intake fan is about 500m3 an hour. - so I think that's adequate, yes?) I think because it gets quite hot in my flat.

Now I was thinking of getting an air conditioner, otherwise I will just be pulling scrappy bits out of there - the increase in yield hoefully will pay for the air conditioner (and the leccy it takes to use it). At the moment believe this or not it looks like I've managed abotu 50 grams under a 600w light which is pathetic and suggests to me that it's too hot in there. Usually I kind of do ok yield wise (at least 1/2 g per w).

Problems -

Can't get a window air con - wrong sort of windows. Can't get a wall air con, it's a rented property. So it'll have to be a portable one.
These only seem to come with about 1.5 metres of ducting. Now I could duct it out of the window of the room where the grow tent is, but I just feel unhappy about that, becasue all the neighbours will see the ducting sticking out of the window. I know in itself it's just air conditioner ducting but paranoia kicks in, I'm sure you lot know what I mean (this particular window is in public view). Also I was worried about smell, although it won't actually be inside the tent, but in the gap between the outside of the tent and the walls of the room that it's in.
Can't duct up to the loft - don't want any more holes in cieling, plus the ducting won't actually reach up there either.
I was thinkikng of ducting out of the bathroom window - makeshift I know but I don't get any visitors.
However I understand that it's bad to extend the exhausts on these things due to "pressure" issues and the unit overheating. I would need to extend out to about 5 metres to do this.

Questions -

How can I do this? It's frustrating, I'm prepared to buy one and it doesn't seem practical to set it up in any way - I can't work it out.

Also - say on a 12,000 BTU unit what kind of temp reduction could I expect. Is it worth it?

Sorry to make my first post a long one. Any help would be majorly appreciated, as I only have a short time frame to get my next batch up and running. And I don't want to set them up to witness them frying like the ones that are in there at the moment.

if your growing in a tent why cant u reinforce 1 of the walls of it and then put wall/window aircon in ?

Ooooooo...... that's definitely an interesting idea.

My tent is one of those growell tents with the plastic poles and covered with pvc. Are you saying make one of the walls of it out of plyboard or something?
It strikes me that these units perhaps weigh quite a lot. I wonder whether I could put it on the floor next to the walls somehow......
Edit - yes the weight is a bit of a worry - clocking in at 50 kilos.....I just looked them up.

So - these window units - they don't exhaust out hot air, no? How do they work then? :chin:

Would I have to put this window unit actually in the walls of the tent or could I somehow just put it in the room outside the tent (freestanding)????

Sorry for the questions - I'm not too familiar with air con units being British LOL.

Ok I just looked these window units up -

They exhaust hot air out of the window. So mine would be exhausting hot air into the room where the tent is, only to be sucked back into the tent - effectively the air con is fighting itself and the tent would stay the same temperature?
Also - there's no way that tent is holding 50 kilos.

Seems like your only option would be to vent the portable A/C unit out of the window of the room where the tent is. I wouldn't be paranoid about that. I have a portable unit vented outside the front of my house. And I have a grow. But that particular A/C isn't in the growroom... so maybe that's what keeps my paranoia away?

But I don't think you should have much to worry about, IMO. It's summer time, it's hot, (saying that you live in the northern hemisphere), and you're just venting your portable A/C.

But if you really feel it's going to look suspicious, then go with your gut and save yourself the stress and paranoia anyways.

Have you thought about moving the tent to a room that has a window that you could put the window unit in, or a window that you feel comfortable exhausting out of?

Hope you figure things out.

There is a window box you can build .From the outside it looks perfectly normall. The directions to build this window box is on p**tv. hate to send u to em.The video is a grow room contstruction vid.You can attach 4 inch or whatever size flanges to the box ...

I use a portable AC also and thats your best idea in that situation, can you set the unit on a piece of furniture or something maybe 5 ft. off the ground and have enough hose to vent out the ceiling? Its either that or through the window which isnt a big deal

THanks for your help guys, still haven't bought one LOL because it's a bit cooler. But in the UK I am unsure now whether we are expecting any more of the heat through August, so I'm still thinking about it.
I'm havgin trouble finding one with a hose over 2 metres, as you know the ducting is a problem.

I had a little idea - the exhaust fan which blows up to the loft - the end of the ducting is sticking into the top right corner of the grow tent's ceiling. Now how about if I put the ducting from the air conditioner "up" this ducting of the exhaust fan? I assume the ductign for the exhaust fan is heatproof? (Normal silver ducting for RVK fans).
How hot does the aircon exhaust get? Enough to be dangerous in this situation? Safety first and all that.
Say the hose of the air conditioner was sticking about a foot into the exhaust fan, wouldn't the exhaust suck up all the heat from the A/C exhaust? The RVK fan is quite big - abotu 1000m3 an hour.

Could this be a solution? What do you think , would it work? Then I could just put the air con maybe up the other end of the tent if the ducting will reach.
The only thougth is if I put the A/C too close to the exhaust, won't the exhaust hoof up all the cold air before it gets time to circulate?
Sorry for ressurrecting this thread again.......

BTW - the window - I'm just too paranoid. My house would be the only house in the local area with a hose hanging out of the window........I know it's stupid, but I'd prefer to sleep at night......

It's defintiely best to put it there. Just because it's there doesn't mean you have to use it.
Can you help me with my dilema?
