Agrostar 250HPS questions?

anyone have experience with it recently? i'm interested in getting 1 w/ upgraded air cooled hood, so i can run duct to an axial in tent. also i plan on either using CFL for veg or get the MH/HPS hood. use the MH of course for veg and MH for flowering. what do u guys recommend? it's my first grow. want to do EVERYTHING right. i'm kinda following BOG's method. he prefers a 3:1 ratio of lighting between veg and flowering, meaning for me, about 80W CFL for veg, then 250HPS for flowering. if i go with the MH/HPS set up, this would not be as per BOG. anyway, just looking for some feedback on agrostar systems and what u guys think, CFL for flowering, or MH....thanks.

Vin....Im setting up the same setup as you roughly...stepping down from a 400 too a 250..Check out bchydro....They have a 250w lumantek digi everything included 270W agroson bulb hps for $207.....Did you get the tent from HTg? If so, how is it? Either getting the small tent from HTGS or the small secret jardin tent.....Also flourecents are the way to go for vegg, currently vegging under 4x 24W T5 HO....First time vegging with these......Wow!! will never veg under hps or mh again

how would a 250 run in there, alot of effort for cooling or just a small exaust....I like that idea of 3:1 ratio with lighting!!

i'm thinking a 120 or so cfm axial to cool light hood w/ duct. another 120 or so axial to cool tent. will have a few of the available inlet ports on tent open....why u goin from a 400 to 250...? heat? is this ur first grow?

anyone else know about agrostars...? any other recommended 250HPS systems w/ remote ballasts...?

400 is way too hot..i just grow for myself and its too big of a light, especially with such a small tent im tryin to get...used to just use the 400 in my walk in closet, but want to get more stealth/productive....i'm going to to with the 250 lumantek digital, with 5(24w) T5 HO's velcroed to the side...Ive heard mixing T'5's with hps gives better trichome coverage.....I plan on putting a small table in the tent with 2 more of those T5 underneath and start vegging when im in my final month on flower...perpetual harvest(well every 2 months) so too say. If I can get 120g's off of 3 plants every 2 month's thats plenty!! 2 grams a day.....Also with the perpetual harvest i can get a mix of diffrent strains instead of waiting every 3 months or so.......sorry I rambled, freshly baked!!

Get an old school HPS ballast and a CMH 250w or 400w (they run much cooler than HPS). FCK HPS and standard halide, they are shit for growing!!!!!! Even the "Horti" design bulbs are a joke.

God damn it is getting old chasing down all of the folks that are victims of the marketing BS that tells them to get HPS bulbs. When is everyone going to wake up and study plant biology and light spectrum as it relates to such. It is f''n incredible to me that there are still so so so many people way behind on growing/lighting tech!!!!!

well i'm coming up on 1st grow, so not exactly an expert. been researchin my ass off, and keep hearing all different shit (HPS entire time, or veg w/ CFL, then MH, or MH for veg, then HPS...) gonna veg w/ CFL, then switch right to HPS or first MH, then to HPS. i'm following BOG's advice. he says 3:1 ration, so like 80W CFL, then off to 250MH, for a couple weeks when start flowering, then on to 250HPS. what gives more lumens, a 250HPS or a 250CMH?

Sorry bout the rant from 2 posters above, but anyways , why not just get a nice lil t5 setup to veg and then maybe a cmh to flower. Sounds like an optimum compact but efficient setup to me. HPS does make some tastey bud as well . just my 2cents , but then again what do I know, apparently anyone who endorses mh or hps is a fool so dont listen to me. What do I know anyways with almost 10 years indoor grow experience. Oh and if youre gonna go digi , plz consider a galaxy ballast as opposed to a lumatek , and def stay away from future brite as they are crapola. Good ole magnetic ballasts are great too and digi's have few benefits with such a small scale grow.Good luck Vin D.

would the agrostar 250HPS reflector and mag ballast be fine for a CMH lamp? i want CMH not HPS. do i need a regular HPS reflector or a HPS/MH reflector...? i'm confused about bulb socket size on CMH as opposed to a HPS...

i like it cuz it has 4" air cooled fitting, not like most which have 6 or 8". i'm usng a 4" 120cfm axial to cool reflector and another to exhaust tent...

the agrostar hps 250 works just fine with the CMH as the socket for the mh and hps are the same.

the reflector it comes with will work ok too. there are better reflectors out there but it depends on your setup etc as to whether it would matter for you to upgrade.

i like that particular one cuz it has a 4" flange to air cool. like i said, most are 6 and 8". i'll be using 4" axial to cool it. my hut has 4 and 5" available ports...
seems like a nice reflector to me....no?
