I heard a rumour that the Seedsman Strain 'African Buzz' sold in packs of 100 for USD$131 each is Afropips Malawi Gold.

Can anyone confirm/deny?

I got african buzz as a freebie and was going to grow it next to ace malawi but got zero germ on them. I only got 1 female out of a six pack of ace and its a 12 weeker. Pretty good not a keeper. Made a few crosses with it. I could not find much on African buzz when I was searching it...

I hope there is a male in my 8 Malawis. I think 6 have already pre-confirmed female. I'm a little worried. This is a preservation run.

Not Afropips
but the old African Seed Companies Malawi Gold.

I grew it outdoor in Hawaii and it turned out pretty good.

Seed Whore
I had an old pack of Malawi Gold (African Seeds) that was maybe 10 years old that I tried germinating.
I got only 2 seeds to germinate and they were both males. To help preserve those genetics from being
lost a friend sent me some Malawi Gold (SOA) X Mulanje Gold hybrid seeds and I found females in those.
So I never got to grow the Malawi Gold (SOA) or Mulanje Gold in pure form and can't comment on them.
The males from the African Seeds had nice cinnamon type aroma when the stems were rubbed. I haven't
grow them seedless yet so can't comment on the effect of the weed. I was more concerned with making
seeds to save the genetics.

How did you feel about the cross? Between the two which ones had more narrow leaves (the males or the cross)? Do you recall the flowering times? Just Curious.. I remember the catalogs with African seeds. I used to say to myself I need this this and this and then I'll pick up some African seeds. I never did... There were quite a few sativas and sativa doms I never pulled the trigger on. Regret! Lol

Hi. I hope not to have arrived too late! If you still have alive those males you can still save that Malawi line in pure form!

Males have XY chromosomes, you if you self pollinate those males you can get seeds from both sexes, males and females. Later you can pollinate females obtained from one male with pollen from the other male in order to avoid narrowing the genepool too much.

To make your males to produce female flowers they need ethylene. I have had some success once with ripe bananas and a transparent plastic bag. But you can use Etephon (Ethrel).
