Advice on a plumbing problem

I am going to be installing a propane hot water heater to act as a co2 gen. I need to plumb water lines to and from the heater. Luckily my grow room is adjacent to the bathroom and there is an access panel in the grow room closet to get to the shower water lines.

The hot and cold lines for the shower are copper, which I think I can simply tap with a saddle valve. My room is small and I don't think I'll need much water to run this heater.

Draining is another problem. The shower drain is PVC which will only take temps up to 140f. I reckon my heater will put out water hotter than that, but probably not more than 10-15 gallons every other day.

Is it safe to put that small amount of hot water down a PVC drain? Or should I just go through the wall and put a drain tube in the bath tub to allow the water to cool?

I could also go through the floor and into the basement's floor drain. Would this be a better option?

Best option would be to recirculate. You can always set the burner at it's highest flow rate and lowest flame as well as the summer setting that many burners have which cuts your flame in half. Any option that nets cooler water will also increase your consumption of water.

In my part of the world wasting water is almost a hangin offense!
