This is a picture of a Malawi that was germinated on 15 May 22. Transplanted to 7 gal fabric pots in June. pre-flowers observed on I August 22. 30*N 13hrs &38 min daylight hrs. This planted was a runt and wasn't sure if would make it. The pic was taken 8-30-22. The end of September would make approximately 60+/- days of flowering. Does this look like it will go longer?
Sorry for pic quality ,cell phone.

I have grown RSC Malawi 3 times now. Your 60 day flowering time is about 8 weeks. The minimum harvest time for Malawi would be about 16 to 18 weeks. The turpines have developed by then. If you wait longer to harvest then THC rises but the terps kinda disappear.

grayeyes,

Thanks for the heads up? I haven't grown for over 11 years. I'm relearning a lot. This plant is a test run. I'm still looking for my retirement house. Today it's 107 days (18 wks) in the ground. Also it's ACE std Malawi. I'm assuming your RSC seeds are different. I'm at 30* N, ACE grows at 43* . Their website say end of Oct., early Nov. Again tks for reply.
I assume it will finish earlier here. How much earlier will it finish here. Could it be as much as a month earlier here?

You can tell how far a long you are by looking at the pistils (hairs). All the pistils I see are white and still immature so you still have a ways to go. Although pistils can help you judge maturity / when to harvest, the best way is using a scope to look at the trichomes.

Thanks for the reply. I have a 50-2000x USB scope. Will take a look next week.
If they Malawi will come in a end of Sept/begining of Oct. that would be wonderful.
I thought from reading the description that it would be much later. I wonder if they is a way to calculate finishing times by latitude for a strain?
Shaky pic with the scope. It will be very useful I think. 1661008656302.jpg

Still lots of clear (probably more (out of focus)). Considering the pistals and the trichs she has a way to go but, be careful. I have seen some mature awfully fast from this stage. TBS, keep an eye on her and you'll be fine.

Thanks Switcher56.
I was/am having trouble believing it can go another 2+ plus months. I'm learning if somewhat slowly. oh I can't take my eye off of it for too long.

Shaky pic with the scope.

Once all the pistils start turning dark that's when you wanna check the trichomes with the scope, right now it's still too early.
Sativa take's a long time to finish and can be finicky, that's why I only run indicas or indica dominant hybrids.

That was always my belief as well. :tiphat:
Ancient, when we refer to weeks it is NOT weeks in the ground. Usually what is counted is weeks in flower. Just vegging doesn't count.

Hope that was of some help.
Thanks Guys
The description on Ace's website says end of October / Early November. I saw first pre-flowers on Aug 2. The end of October would be 12 weeks, early November would be 14 wks. Based on recent pictures I have a hard time believing that it can go that long. That is why I asked the question. BTW these are some of the densest
Sativa buds I've seen. Most are wispy and airy. I was assuming the Difference in latitude between 43* and 30* would account for it.
I appreciate the warm welcome I have received here. I'm grateful for all the advice and help I have been given.

We must always remember that the Mfr dates are a suggestion e.g ball park. I have come to understand that it's when it is flipped usually @ 4 wks old. I do 6 myself. So it is based on the MFR's recommendation and the actual in field product so to speak, what is it telling you in person, as everyone's climate is slightly different, your mileage will vary.

Ancient, I have grown Malawi 3 times. the first time I let it go 22 weeks. High THC but the terps weren't there. 16 to 18 weeks and great high and wonderful terps. I am growing at about 34 degree latitude.

My Ace Malawi fem took about 9-10 weeks outdoors from 1st pistil with mid - late October harvest.

I don't know why they insist on calling it a pure sativa because clearly it isn't!

Nice and potent though!

Thanks Everybody,
I will do normal monitoring until it's ready. I don't think it will go greater than 14 wks though. Nexus7 came up with the obvious explanation; it's got a little Indica in it. I think the buds are very dense for a sativa. oh well the joy of learning new things is satisfying . Maybe a different breeders Malawi next time. Again thanks for the many helpful replies.
