Advice Needed! GRS Blue Dream BX seeds poppin off!

Hello,

First off, I've been quietly reading on this site for the last two years. I'm extremely grateful for the abundance of knowledgable individuals who converse and contribute to this great site. Hands down, this website is the best!

I have a small collection of Blue Dream Seeds started, and I'm trying to come up with the best game plan in regards of what to do next. They were germinated on the 20th of March. I have them in approx. 1/4 gallon starter pots. They are 4 to 6 inches tall, pushing out their 4th set of leaves, and the furthest along plants are ready to be transplanted. The question I am wrestling with is whether to expand my indoor lighting for now, or put them outside once they are transplanted? My indoor lighting is 4' 8 bulb t-5 lights. I run the lights from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pretty close to the lighting cycle outside currently. I am new to the 530 foothills, with a elevation of 1800'. The weather is calling for partly cloudy tomorrow, but then all sunshine for the next ten days, with temps ranging from the mid 40's to the upper 70's. If I elect to start putting them out now, I have the ability and materials to erect a small, open ended hoop house, to protect from rain or a late frost. Although I would prefer to hold off on the GH until the weather says its necessary. That's my first question, what would be best of the plants? Inside in the controlled environment, or outside, with lower temperatures, but natural lighting?

My second question has to do with the size of the pots I transplant into. Ideally I would like this to be the only transplant that I do before the plants have sexed, and are ready to go into the ground for the summer. I'm figuring about mid may. I'm trying to decide on a pot with the size range of 1 to 3 gallons. Please tell me what you think. Any answers, questions, or comments would be very much appreciated :big grin: ! I really want to have the biggest, healthiest garden possible, and I know that any input from this community will help me reach my goal.

Thanks in Advance!!!

Here's what they look like now. I'll be more than happy to continue to post pictures and my experience with GRS Blue Dream BX as the summer progresses.

If you only want to transplant them one time before their final planting outdoors I would suggest at least 5 gallon pots, which is a lot of soil considering about half of the plants will be males.
As it warms up those things will fill out 3 gallon pots in no time, especially if your pampering them/feeding them etc.
If your in the foothills your still looking at some colder weather. We're getting frost warnings in the 707 I think tonight or tomorrow night.
If you are going to put them in a hoop house make sure you have enough plastic to cover both ends. A little cold at night in the spring will slow them down a bit,but it's natural for seed plants to be cold at night in the spring,it toughens em up in my opinion. Just don't let them get too cold.
Maybe try to keep em under those lights a few more days before transplanting and putting them outside in hoops.
Looking great so far and keep us posted. You seem pretty set on crushing it and growing those seedlings into monsters.
Good luck,

Peace..

Thanks GRS! I notice in some of your pictures you put your plants on pallets in the hoops. Do you find this makes a little difference with the temperature?

I was actually using the pallets because the ground was not level in those hoops and they help keep plants in pots upright. At the same time it does allow additional airflow to the roots and medium.

and moreso, early on, prevents the plants from conducting the cold ground temps. to tender young roots.

So the plants are doing amazing. 35 days in and over 80% have sexed out. 39 females to 34 males. Some of the bigger girls are 18 inches. The weather is amazing and the plants are loving the warm sunshine. With the forecast looking great I threw some of the girls in their holes. If/when we get some stormy weather I plan propping some plastic over them.
