Big Bud powder also smells like malt sugar - does ur amino powder smell sweet?

Yes it does, it sticks together into clumps as well rather than being a powder, big bud ddid the same thing.

Wish I'd taken pics of the two side-by-side so you could see what I mean, got no big bud left now though.

Sorry mullray, I take your point, I was just going by the three or four seaweed powders I've seen here, all local Uk ones and they are all dark green, almost black.

I was just making the point that the Big Bud Powder packets I had 2-3 years back were a pale brown colour, you could see larger pale brown granules and smaller white granules. When I bought a pound of powdered aminos it was the same pale brown colour as the brown bits in Big Bud. I could imagine the aminos I had mixed with epsom salts and mono pk would look just like the Big Bud Powder. Just my completely unscientific observation based purely on aesthetics. That old 0-15-40 Big Bud Powder did work good, dunno whether that was down to the aminos or not.

That's nice and it's good to try to observe things as you do but I don't think you can really trust a visual diagnosis and figure out what's in a product or analytical chemists would be out a job.

I bet there's ways to bleach kelp I've read that many humic acid products are bleached to make them more gold which is meant to signify more fulvic acid content.

Ill tell you what...I have stayed away from AN for years due to threads just like this one. I never really wanted to give them the time of day due to the ridiculous marketing and all the hype.

well anyway I decided to give their stuff a try. Im on my 2nd week or so of veg after the clones were rooted. I went back to soil, so Im trying out FF happy frog potting soil.

I have never had clones so lush and vigorous before in my life. I blame this success on the voodoo, bud candy and B-52. and I have used similar products before. ENEA,organic all phase other tomato, companion, sugar daddy, superthive, thrive alive B1. but this AN combo is rocking my shit hard now. these clones look so amazing I feel like I should post pics.

Im blown away so far with AN. only time will tell. dont always believe the negative hype. try the shit first like I did before you bash it.

B-52 is great stuff. I use it to soak oasis cubes for cuttings, and once a week as a foliar from the cutting stage all the way through veg. It's even organic :) (I've used Thrive Alive B1 too, but the B-52 works much better)

I ran Bud Candy on a strain I didn't like the taste of, and it had no effect on taste, so I went back to simple Molasses.

Wow my local store now actually carries the entire ph-ppm line.
You know those nutes, they were pumping up 2 years before release??? Over $900 if you want to buy the entire system.

The store owner, a good buddy of mine says they are selling entire systems left and right.

Bought my first product from AN and it's the PH down. Love it as I use so little compared to the last stuf I was using. Now how good is the old big bud powder?

Which store? I couldn't imagine any store pushing the ph perfect with a straight face. If you are you're doing your customers a disservice by not teaching them how use a simple ph pen and who to set ph. Seriously how fucking lazy do you have to be not to want to set the ph after all your nutrients/additives are mixed.

Its a store over on Vancouver Island.
They do lots of online sales, and thats where they are selling all these kits. This do offer a good discount to get the whole set.
But still crazy.

I agree a $100 pH pen and a bottle of pH down will last forever.
I have a sizable grow and I use literally a drop or 2 a week of pH down. It will last years. Wonder why they can't sell smaller bottles of that stuff as well.

AN ph up/down is the shit. its so much more stable than GH up/down. pick up a bottle of AN and a bottle of GH up/down and see how much heavier AN's bottle is. its so much more stable than GH

According to their MSDS:
http://www.igrowhydro.com/advanced_nutrients/pHUp-MSDS.pdf
http://www.igrowhydro.com/advanced_nutrients/pHDown-MSDS.pdf

Advanced Nutrients pH Up
  • 45% Potassium Hydroxide (KOH)
  • 1.51 g/ml specific gravity (this applies for a saturated 50% KOH)
  • 1.46 g/ml for this 45% KOH solution

  • 1 ml/gal adds 121 ppm K
  • 1 drop/gal adds 6 ppm K
  • 1 drop/L adds 22.9 ppm K
to the nutrient solution.

Advanced Nutrients pH Down
  • 85% Phosphoric acid (H3PO4)
  • 1.7 g/ml specific gravity
  • 1.689 g/ml in this case

  • 1 ml/gal adds 119.6 ppm P
  • 1 drop/gal adds 6 ppm P
  • 1 drop/L adds 22.6 ppm P
to the nutrient solution.

(1 drop ~ 1/20 ml | density tables from Chembuddy)

AN pH down : 15$/quart

It's still not that bad price compared to other stuff from AN, so that makes me doubtful.
If anyone has AN's pH Down and pH Up at hand, along with a syringe and a scale, could you tell me the weight of 10 ml please!
This would tell us a lot more about it's real concentration.
