adjusting light cycle

I have my veg room set at 18/6 right now, the 6 hours off are at night. If i turn the lights off an hour ahead of time every few days until I get it to where I want it, will that do the trick? I know I can probably just switch it right away, but I dont want to put anymore stress on them and risk getting hermies.

Ha I like your style.. Baby Em! Don't gotta worry in veg

Lol I like to baby the ladies, when shes ready I hit it.

X2 you can just switch it, no worries. But your way will work too.

Ok cool, just had a lot going on, I switched them back and forth from 24/0 to 18/6 to 20/4 a few times already within the past month, plus I just had a bad thrip/gnat infestation, and just did a major defoliation job on them. I never had any hermies so I'm not really sure how easy they are get.

Hey IMedicate!

Nothing wrong with what you're doing. I'm never usually that kind to my girls when it comes to the lighting schedule; 24/0 straight down to 12/12. I'm at their beck and call for everything else though. Might give me something to think about though haha.

I'm with you mate. Any stress slows down growth! I like to ease them in to the 12/12 too.
Not that just switching them over is a problem, I've done that too for years. But I do think that easing them in, a little in the morning and a little at night. Just over a period of about a week doesn't slow them down as much.
I know a lot of growers swear by vegging for 24/24 but apart from the electric bill, I understand that the plants can't use the light for 24 hrs anyway. They shut down for around six hours in every 24 regardless. Trouble is, if your on 24 hr lights, how do you know when your plants are sleeping? When you come to switch over to 12/12 and you unwittingly switch off half way through their 'awake' period, it will take them a week - 10 days to sort it out. Growth delay - bad!
If I'm talking complete bollocks, I'm sure some kind member will put me right!

Now switching backwards and forwards - that's entirely another thing. Keep doing that & you will get 'Hermies'.

I have run perpetual for years...absolutely NO problem with immediate flip.!!

I have separate areas with plants in different stages, no luxury of "playing" with the light timing like you are talking about. One area is always on, the other is always on 12/12...that's it NO worries.

That's not really a time you need to "baby" the girls...plenty of spots for that throughout the grow. You will not get hermis from light change, if you do it will be from something else.

Good Luck
