Couple of advantages for the wing are that you can adjust the footprint of the light without being forced to raise or lower the fixture, lower ceiling friendly, ability to have the ballast outside the grow area reducing cooling costs and don't forget the much lower initial investment.

adjusta wings suck.. hot spots and mega cold spots.. and yes I've tried every setting, light spreader all that crap. I've got 50 of them sitting in the closet.. epaps or gavitas hands down, don't listen to anyone who says otherwise

Its a shame that they didn't work for you.
I have been doing this for a while and your experience is contrary to most, read into that what you will.
The spreader is of very limited application is true tho.

I recently switched from wings to the Epap and Nanolux DE's fixtures.
28k room with wings was replaced with 20 Nanolux fixutres.
8k room was replaced with 6 Epap De's.

More coverage and less watts needed to cover the same space. Yes they cost more but you don't need as many of them to light the same area.

Very different reflectors with each providing a unique application. Adjustawings are one of the best for 8' or lower ceiling heights, IME.

grow shop frank, do you have a pair of hps glasses? if so walk into your room and look directly under the bulb, there will be a cold/dim strip right under the light and mega bright strips right under the edges of the wings.. grab the hood and move it left to right with glasses on and you will see the cold strip and hot spots.. not saying shit won't grow under there and look normal, just saying epaps have absolutely no cold spots at all in any of my rooms.. plus they damn near supercharge the grow cycle. its a no brainer really.. but if you do have low ceiling heigh i wouldn't use a DE lamp, but would also use something other than an adjust awing..

currently running 12 HPS 1000's with a 5 ton HVAC, using adjust a wings just curious is if is worth the change. Only have 30 plants under the 12 as well and consistently double or almost double lights, but more than 2X would be nice.

Ended up going with the Hydrofarm DE, so we'll see. You can separate the ballasts on these as well. Apparently same bulb as the GAvita, but all the gavitas are on backorder.

We recently got a par meter and did a test the gavitas have a consistent par rating over a 5x5 area where as the adjust a wings have dead spots. Gavitas are hands down better than any other fixture other than maybe the epap depending on your setup. I just upgraded all my adjust a wings to gavitas and I couldn't be happier
