Yea froogle is cool but perhaps you should invest in one of those new fangled digital ballast.

MD Hydro has great deals on 600 watt digital ballsts with mdhydro blue bulbs and a cool tube reflector. It's no 1000 watter only pumping out 95,000 lumen compared to about 140,000 for most cheap HPS system. With the overdrive of the MDhydro ballast and lamp it probably even hits around 100,000 lumens or more for their 600 over a stand cheap version. YET their prices are still dirt cheap and they sell all the right accessories for lighting and ventilation. With this 600 watter you can reduce heat in the grow room and GET THE LIGHT CLOSER to the plant, which is quite important in keeping yields up.

There seems to be a premium on 1000 watter digitals right now so for that reason I recommend this light. Plus it matches your 400 better if you did plan to use them in the same room, though it will definately be brighter and stay brighter longer. HPS lights degrade pretty quickly and after something like 18 months of use or such the light is around 70% or less of it's original light output. Digital ballast MAY increase lamp life by 3 times. That actually may be one of the best advantages of a digital ballast... that and the fact that it is has built in saftey features and runs cooler. Since there digital ballasts don't have the initial very high draw startup they are not nearly as much of a fire hazard. Over time those high startups wear out the bulb and perhaps even your timer. So if the lamp life claims are true it's more than worth it to go with a digital. You can go 1000 watt digital, but the prices are still very high for 1000 watts for some reason and some manufacturers don't make 1000 watt digitals yet. Anyway..happy shopping
