I noticed today that the IC icon I use to have in my favorites has changed to a S with a yellow box around it. Why? I like the IC better then this S.

Im using IE8. Dont know if that helps. John might know what im talking about. The S is in front like this S https://www.icmag.com/ic/some other stuff.

If I use the security https:// I get a red circule with a .? in it

I just checked Firefox and it is OK with firefox so this issue is only with IE8

I just added IC to IE8 favorites. It's the green IC. I don't know what the "S" is all about.

Mouse over the red circle ?. It's probably telling you the certificate of authenticity has expired.

Is this the authentic ICMag? Definitely. Should you be aware of other sites you're less familiar with? Yes, because you may find yourself on a pirated look-alike site such as Paypal.

no I deleted everything and put it back in my fav it is a S now. As long as you guys are awhere of this and can look into it. I hope John can shed some light and tell me not to worry about it.

When I mouse over the S it shows the web address for here

When I mouse over the red ? it shows the secure web site for here

I do know this site isn't configured for IE, so there will be random glitches and stuff. Not sure What else to say.

If there is no security issues then I'm fine. If there is a security issue I would like to know. It would be great if the webmaster would look into this and give me his opinion.

Hammerhead,

This shouldn't be a security concern. The icon next to the URL, called favicon, doesn't effect the security of the site. As long as you are using HTTPS, and your browser does not report security errors when on the site, you should be secure.

There are known issues with favicons being confused in IE8, like icons for sites being swapped and changed randomly, for no apparent reason. Its an IE/Windows problem, not a problem with the site. I've heard of a couple things fixing the issue:

Close IE8

1) Control Panel --> Internet Options --> IE8 --> Advanced --> Restore to defaults

OR

2) Control Panel --> Indexing Options --> Depending on your OS, either Internet Explorer History --> Restore Defaults, or look for an option to remove Internet Explorer from the indexing list.

Let us know if that helps.

Weird, its in the Control Panel. Trying searching for it while in the CP.

There are more solutions posted here, namely deleting browser files:

Good luck

The only think I found was rebuilding the idexing files. So I started the rebuild but I dont think that will fix it.
