Adding a HID - HPS or MH

Hey guys,

I'm about to pull the trigger on a new HID from HTG. I have a Homebox L (40in x 40in grow space, a little over 10 sq ft) with a 250W HPS light vented using a 170 CFM fan.

I think my fan is big enough to support an extra 250 W light. I'm wondering if I should add a MH for mixed spectrum, but I've heard others say that the more HPS the better. What do you all think?

CMH-Ceramic Metal Halides

Uses the same ballast as your 250 HPS. More blue than MH, more red than HPS, all in one lamp.

You might yield a little more with the HPS than the MH, then again you might have more potent and aesthetically pleasant bud with the MH than the HPS. Although that depends alot on your genetics -- got any strains/phenos with purple tendencies?

As far as CMHs go, I don't have any personal experience, but I'm testing a 250w CMH in my veg room over my really young girls to see if they dig the added red light.

I didn't even know about CMH until now, so didn't add it, but its quickly becoming an option!

I'm with Freezer and Che on this one. CMH is your best option!

As a write in candidate, I vote for the CMH as well. Although, if I am reading you correctly, you will be using more than one light. If so, does that mean that your other light is an HPS, as well? Even then, if for some reason you become disillusioned with the CMH you can replace it with an HPS bulb and a few CFL's could then be added for the blue spectrum.
