You are installing a central AC or a window mount unit? Sounds like a central unit.

Tap into the main line off your furnace closest to the garage and try to keep the bends to a minimum...you will NEED a return. Just so you know, 2 10" ducts are going to divert a tremendous amount of air from the cooling/heating of your house

i wouldn't reccomend doing this without adding an extra ton and a half of cooling to your central a/c unit. In fact, i wouldn't reccomend doing this at ALL, unless you don't like control of your A/C system. But, If it's a brand new house just talk to your builder and ask them to leave that out of your contract. I'd highly reccomend having a separate a/c system for your grow....

If your using a window mounted unit you could do what a friend of mine has done. He seperated the garage into two halves. The wall seperating the two halves was insulated along with the rest of the garage. It housed the air conditioner so that the exaust was blowing into the other half of the garage closest to the garage door. This way no one outside can see or hear the air conditioner and the second half stays cool even on the hottest of summer days. The only thing to worry about is the water. You have to catch the condensed water somehow, but thats the easy part. I don't know if this pertains to you, but if so I hope it helps. Good luck!

There is NO portable that will cool an area that big. Also, you will vent smells from a portable.

so, I guess its over $1000 for a mini split or a wall a/c.... didn't want to cut holes into my new house..
don't the mini splits have to be installed by a tech??

You can build a fake wall to mount the unit to. Or you can build a square tower, 4 walls of ply wood (4x4xheigh from floor to roof). The top of this 4 wall structure would be sitting right under your attic door (or another hole to the attic) sealed with cocking/sheet rock. So you have your wall unit mounted on one of the walls and them its sealed at the floor with a small box fan for exhaust into the attic. it would be like a chimney for the return. The best would be to have an alternative entrance to the attic to you can maintenance/swap the box fan should it ever bust.. otherwise that heat will build up/leak from attic.

Search Ebay for a mitsubishi mini split. They kick the shit out of portables.

That right there is the shit. Sort of power hungry though..
