Added 6" depth to a C24

Hey all, I decided that I wanted to use the C24 but it's limiting factor was it's shallow depth. At just over 20" deep, the stock C24 is too narrow to efficiently use any air cooled hood on the market. This is my attempt to make an otherwise excellent cabinet into a great one.
I bought an extra shelf made out of the same material that the cabinet is made of that was 12" wide and ripped it right down the center. Unfortunately, that piece wasn't EXactly that same thickness so some concessions were made. I created a fat surface to glue the parts together, smeared the edges with glue, lined them up and clamped them together. For the best look, try to make the outside edges flush as possible.

Next step was to add the same amount to the bottom and top. I used the vertical divider that came with the C24 for wood.

Once everything is glued, put the cabinet together. The extra thick backing will help to sure up everything. I put a thin piece of "White Board" on the back first to provide a reflective surface so I don't have to paint the wood.

I used a couple of staples to hold the white board in place while putting the 1/2" plywood backing on.

Then I predrilled a hole in each corner and screwed the plywood in place. I then predrilled a hole every foot. And screwed everything down nice and tight.

Now stand it up and assemble doors as normal.

If you have access to a biscuit joiner, it really helps to make the joints strong as makes lining them up much easier.

I added 10" to my C13 with the biscuits and Gorilla Glue. Came out nice and strong.

notjonesinNEmor - The biscuit joiner would have been key but I don't have access to one. Bet you have one ROCKING C13!
