Add more light or light movers?

Ok, I have a 4x8 room that I am currently running 2 600's. I feel this is the bare minimum for this space and would like to get better results, so which would be the best option?

1. Adding a light mover for both lights?

2. Adding another 600?

3. Replace the two 600's for 1000's?

Obviously option 3 is the most expensive and heat may become more of an issue.

Any opinions?

600s put out a 3x3 spread. if you plant beyond that spread you are looking at airy buds. 4x4 is a 1000w spread. so you actually have a room size fit for 1000s. But.. do you want more heat.? will you be able to deal with the extra heat when it comes.. if you can.. then do it.

I've done one 1000w on a mover in a 4x8 room with HUGE results. you can tie the plants down and lower the light.. there is many options..

All up to what you want. i say try a mover and fit both your lights on it and move the lights 1 foot from side to side. Giving you a little more angle with your light.. movers work well if you use them right..

Plant height matters, taller plants should probably use 1000w bulbs as they penetrate deeper into the canopy, 600w lights are more efficient and better for shorter (SOG/SCROG) grows. Try to get at least 50W per square foot of space, so for you I'd recommend 3X600's for a 4X8. Less shadowing, less heat, more light and less electricity used. Light movers are nice but in my opinion they are one more thing to buy and one more thing that can break (and when they do shit goes wrong FAST.)

Two 600w on a light mover,Three 600w stationary,or Two 1000w on light mover.

400w HID's can penetrate the plant canopy about 2' and 600w HID's reach down about 3' and 1000w reach down about 4'

How tall do you want your plants? Are we scrogging, sogging, bush style/LST or super cropping?

I'd probably go the route of 3x 600w HPS bulbs in A/C reflectors or two 1000w in A.C reflectors.

As g=far as heat and ventilation are concerned a nice 10"-12" Inline centrigugal shoud do the trick if your looking to cool the lights and ventilate the grow area with one fan.Otherwise I'd get maybe an 6"-8" inline centrifugal to cool the lights and a 6"-8" inline for ventilating the room.

I really dislike light movers. I go with more fixtures over light movers. As far as witch ones.... as other said before.... depends on the kind of penetration your looking for. peace

Mr.Wags,I like that insulated fan box you got there....any pics of the build?

Ask and ye shall receive.

They cut down on the sound by at least half. They are insulated flooring panels used a Roto Zip for the holes another tool a garden always needs.

Very nice Mr.Wags,very nice.

I was thinking of making one to help silence the noise of the fan itself as I know using insulated or oversized ducting helps cutdown on the noise of the air wooshing around in the ducting and at the ductings outlet.

In your box,is the fan just mounted in the box?

Do the fans flanges protrude through the holes or is the fan in the box and ducting connected to the inlet and outlet from outside the box?

I was thinking of constructing one out of 3/4" thick MDF and lining it with that foam padding you can get for your mattress.I have a few designs I have been running through.

Why don't you like light movers?

well..... when i first started i remember reading that you could double your growing area with a light mover. less elec than adding a light, no extra heat, no hot spots, run the lights closer to the plants, cheaper than getting another fixture and so on. I was a broke 18 year old so of coarse i went for the cheapest way possible (my girlfriend actually bought it for me).It never even came close, FOR ME. all though I did get more yield (not double) the buds were looser and more leafy. I remember I finally broke down and spent the money for another light and BAM!!!! I was a MASTER GROWER!!! hahahahaha I kept adding lights and never looked back. NOW with that said, I'm sure that there are really great uses for light movers. and circumstances that make light movers the only/best option. like supplemental lighting (greenhouse or running a vertical light up and down the isles) or mothers or vegging or heat issues or gnarly cash flow probs. but it is my experience that if you got the cash and an answer for the extra heat then more lights produces better quality bud IMHO. I'm sure growers here have done amazing things with light movers but I never could. If you want one, I'll give you one!!! let me know. peace

Honestly I used to have one (Suntwist) and loathed it. Fragile, delicate, and after I saw it working I was terrified of the thing. Moving things in a grow are one more thing to break, go wrong, snag a wire, and catch fire. Air cooling on a circular one is impossible, and it's a pain (and inefficient) on a linear mover. The difficult air-cooling is enough for me to quit them. They're also one more thing to buy and maintain, and to remove when you're done. Hard to add more lighting, they're expensive, and make it hard to move/rearrange your room and plants.

LOL, I think I have given this too much thought, not trying to be a prick, sorry for the rant Micro-Gro, and the threadjack Baddog40!!

I'm experimenting with higher light energy this time around so that is my 4x4

With 4 x 8 I would add a center with that Hortilux super blue.. 1k 600 HPS + 400 MH in one bulb.

May not be what you want but thought to share.

We shall see.. ball park here is at maximum near 90 with glass per sq ft
