activated carbon VS. activated carbon charcol

I am in the process of making a filter for my new grow cab and am looking into buying carbon in bulk and I am stumped on weather to get activated carbon or activated carbon charcol. Is there any difference in the two? Is one better than the other? what is mostly used by growers?

I plan on making my filter so I can refill it every so often to ensure my garden is safe and secure. This question might not be a big deal but I like to get things built correctly the first time and I don't want to buy one and find out the hard way that the other is better or if they are both the same please any and all comments are welcome please help me in deciding witch to purchase. :dance013::dance013::dance013::dance013::dance013::dance013::dance013::dance013::dance013::dance013::dance013::dance013::dance013:

I think making a scrubber was the one DIY project that wasn't really worth the money saved... for me that is...

I made a D.I.Y. scrubber for a micro box and it has yet to fail on me, but I am a D.I.Y. kind of person I can't see spending 10 x the cash for a store bought one when a D.I.Y. will do the same job just as well. I made a 30 site areo cloner for $30 and it worked just fine as long as u clean it as usual just like the store bought 1 but for a fraction of the cost I don't have the $ to spend on name brand items, your just paying for a name IMO but if your not handy then go ahead and buy a name brand but with a D.I.Y. filter I can refill when needed unlike having to buy a new filter when the old one craps the bed. For the cost of mats.and carbon alone for a D.I.Y. your going to spend a fraction of the cost for a single store bought one that will last you years just my .02

Yes, by driving out all of the captured vapors - it is an INCREDIBLY SMELLY chore, but it works, up to a point. Most "molecular seives" AKA zeolites (activated carbon is one example) work this way. BUT: where are you going to do it that odors won't be a problem? and if you have such a place, why aren't you growing your weed there? ;)

Ideally you want activated coconut carbon, 4x8 screen mesh size. That size is optimized for vapor filtration. The smaller screen sizes are for water filtration. Not ideal for a scrubber

FYI... when making your own scrubber, duck-tape (yes, it was originally called 'duck') is NOT a valid component. LOL

A tape failure (after several months, stupid me) on my VEG chamber, scrubber, made the place reek in a non-med state and it was only a 50w MH setup. LOL

Stay Safe! :blowbubbles:
