Ace R+D strains

Hi all,

One of the things that always catches my attention when visiting the ace site is the R+D section.
It great to have a window into the thinking and development behind some of our favorite lines, but seeing what ace are working on also generates a sense of wonder in terms of possibility. Kid in a candy store kind of thing.

though sadly ace can't send directly to my location, so my access to the R+D section has been limited, i can get their stock through resellers.

I recently tried Zamadelica X Ethiopia as a regular freebie.

Early in growth these exhibited rare vigour, and distinctive wild seration. I'm sure there is quite a bit of unexplored phenotype expression in this one.

The resulting cob has been stashed away since August sometime, and on opening reveals an astounding scent highly reminiscent of entering a Balinese temple, floral spicy (sweet hashy) and (sandal) woody with a heavily incensed but not hazy element, really very different from anything else I've encountered.

To me it could be an alternative to the classic super sativa hybrid that is haze , very different but still profound and wild.

Warm and pungent with camphor on the inhale.

The effect easily keeps pace with golden tiger and zamadelica, though different to both, warmer and cleaner, it can be deliciously delirious, even blissful, felt from the chest up through the brain and into the stratosphere.
It might not be the train wreck effect that the more Malawi zam and gt can deliver but stacks up beautifully over time to gain real power for something so clean

Thankfully I think I have another few of these seeds and will do a seed run as I like the plant and smoke in a way that is very different from zamadelica, which has been a staple for a couple of years.

Sadly I don't have photos of the plants.

I'm sure there a many great strains concocted by ace over the years that have not received the attention they deserve, but have been grown by some in the community with great success.

Another line (discontinued) that has been ideal to my requirement has been the green haze X Malawi, dropped in favour of the purple, this plant has been a true champ and in daily use for some time.
Purchased from a reseller after ace had already dropped the line, germination still perfect.
Best thing is that though it has been discontinued ace still sell the parental lines, so a remake or reintroducing some of the genetic back into a depleted stock is possible.

Thank Dubi and all at ace for quality genetics, professionally produced that really deliver.
It's not just that, but the level of information, all the time spent helping people here get the best from your work, as well as thoughtful and transparent selection process that includes the wider community in testing. Not to mention a great site with a dream R+D section that people can really try.

If you have had particular success with a lesser known or R+D strain it would be great to hear so others growing those crosses might have some insight into what works and what doesn't, phenos encountered etc.

that way others can see the potential behind some of these crosses, should we encounter the opportunity to try one or their progeny, or even do one of our own

Nice idea to start a thread about ACE R&D strains. I add a few pictures of Zamaldelica (Zamal/Thai phenos) x Ethiope. Indoor grow in winter 2019/2020. I have had two phenos one more on Ethiope side the other more Zamaldelica leaning. I like this kind of clean, stimulating, senses sharpend, slightly trippy effects very much. Best daytime outdoor travel weed for me so far...tested during a kajak trekking week.

Hi Taima-da first of all sorry for my delay in the reply, i somehow missed your thread. Apologies.

Thank you so much for such beautiful post and writing, i'm really happy you had the chance to experience Zamaldelica x Ethiopian R+D cross and compare it with Golden Tiger and Zamaldelica. It's a joy when our work and genetics can inspire others in the way it does to you.

We donated most of the Zamaldelica x Ethiopian stock to support @Gypsy Nirvana when he came back to UK and to @PANIKZ from Real Gorilla Seeds.
It's quite an unexplored and unknown African sativa cross, and as you correctly pointed out with such sativa linage (Zamal, Malawi, Ethiopian and Thai) has lots of potential to produce really outstanding new sativa expressions, call it a new Haze if you want. The Zamaldelica Ethiopian cross was made with our best selected 2nd generation pure Ethiopian males used for current pure Ethiopian release, and pollinating 4 different Zamaldelica mothers (tropical Zamal/Thai eletric phenos) and Zamaldelica elite (Zamal mango carrot dominant), all Zamaldelica F1 generation mothers, this generation does not longer exist in seed form.

I agree that adding Ethiopian to the 'magic potion' increases in average clarity, kindness and vibration (more up) of the high compared with Golden Tiger and Zamaldelica.
Glad you noticed the extreme side (octopus like) branching, it comes from both Zamal and Ethiopian genetics, the Mauritius x Ethiopian cross is also really wild in this regard.

Thanks Cactus Squatter and paisajedehierba for chime in :huggy:

Here are pictures from early days of Bangi Congo x New Killer Malawi and (Malawi x PCK) x New Malawi Killer. I will transplant them outdoors next week and place updates from time to time.

Well, if the offerings in R+D have leaned a little toward CBD balanced recently, I notice a flush of interesting sativa leaning crosses now.

Mostly crossed to Nev's old work, A5 X Ace classics like GT, Zam, Congo and Honduras among others such as purple Zamal. Also Amnesia haze and Nev's haze X Panama (this one sold out quickly!) plus others, which are available worldwide via Mandala seeds, who have a dedicated Ace R+D section.
Thanks for putting me onto these guys Dubi.

I could not help but pick up quite a few.

I have heard someone here say that they have not had the greatest luck with Mandala (to the US) but I have been happy with the service and stock has arrived safely to my part of the world.

Usually I don't go so much for these more commercial hybrid crosses as they can hit hard but can end up being quite tiring/monotonous, but crossed to Ace genetics I'm confident there will some great phenos to find.

So glad I found these and keen to grow them out.

Thanks again Ace for making these and putting them out for us to try!!

Taima-Da, I hope it´s ok for you going on posting ACE R&D strains in this thread.
Here are a few more pictures of Bangi Congo x New Malawi Killer and (Old Killer Malawi x PCK) x New Malawi Killer. Both have been transplanted outdoors +/- 2 weeks ago. They suffered during "top secret" transport to their new outdoor home. But they are healthy and recovering very good. I have pruned the main shot to stimulate branching. I fear thunder storms. Bushy plants have a better chance not beeing capsized by strong winds.

You have a very sensitive and trained nose paisajedehierba ;) your descriptions of their terpenes are really accurate coming from the parental plants involved in each case, and they are not even in flowering hehehehhehe looks like they are enjoying the sun (y) watch out and spray them (if necessary) in case of pests to make sure they reach flowering as clean as possible.

pictures taken 2022-07-21. Heat and drought are extrem the last weeks. I water three times a week 4-5 liter per plant. Spider Mites have gone. Now there are new visitors perforating heavily the younger leaves on the whole BC x MA plant. I have not caught in act the causer but the application of LIZETAN, that has stoped the mites not strikes it. Do you know this pest? (MA x PCK) x MA is almost not affected.
BC x MA has reached a height of 1,8m with bushy branching. (MA x PCK) x MA has surpassed the 2,0m mark.

Hi xet,
triple in size ... would be damn crazy. I don´t want such monsters. Storms in autumn are not unusal in my area. I have to use a tree stake and rope to protect the plant from high wind speed. I hope for the tamed qualities of New Killer Malawi and PCK (regarding plant size and early flowering stretch). In case of fat Malawi style buds the weight could be a problem too. But if everything goes well the harvest could be huge:smoke:

Unexpectedly BC x MA was the first variety starting to flowe and is now almost as fast developing as Kali China and faster as Bubbakush x PCK a few meters away. Resin production has started. Deep musky and resinous smell. BC x MA has taken the heat very well. I guess she could be ready to harvest 3. or 4. Week of October.

Later and slower flowering onset than BC x MA (#19). The plant is healthy. I hope the PCK influence will give her good performance for ripening during colder and rainy days in October. I expect her to be ready at the end of October/early November. Last year I have had good results with Zamaledelica Elite F1/F2 (harvested end of October).
