ac as dehumidier

I have been using a dehumidifier in a room 10x6x7. it runs 24/7 and creates a lot of heat and doesn't get get the humidity as low as I would like --temps can get to 87 with 60% humidity. I have it mounted as an ac unit in the wall with the back outside the room.
I have 3 cooled reflectors (2x600 and a 400) but the temps rise dramatically when the lights are on. the room is packed pretty good with occupants, 18 in ebb and grow buckets. no method really; I just sort of let them grow, pruning to get rid of the bottom parts that get no light and restrict air circulation
I have been lucky this year and concentrated on good air circulation as I try to figure out what to do. no probs really but my returns are always better and frostier when temp are low during the winter

is a window ac unit a viable option for reducing humidity as well as cooling?
would I need to run a dehumidifier in addition to a ac unit?
if an ac unit can be used as a dehumidifier how do I catch the water?

thanks very much very any help

you have you dehumidifier setup wrong. your currently just blowing air into your grow space, what you need to do is recirculate the air in your grow area with the dehumidifier. the rear and the front need to be in your grow area. It is not AC. and it should not be mounted like one.

This will solve all your issues with heat and high humidity. You might still want an ac.

A properly sized A/C is excellent at removing humidity and would most likely make your dehumid useless. The A/C will usually have a drain hose and you can route it outside, down a drain or collect it.

Thanks for your help!
It seems like something to try but the power cost is almost double a duhumid for a 12000 btu

thanks again and happy growin

Yessir, An ac's 1 job is Removing humidity from the room, thus making the room cooler. All the window units i have had ive had to drill a few holes in the bottom of the unit, where it sticks outside the window, to allow proper water drainage. Only thing is, is being careful where you drill the holes on the outside bottom of the unit you dont wanna hit important components in the air conditioner.
