hello i got a question i want to make a big order of seeds and i was wonder that if i have them for 3 years for example i still can grow them normaly no matter how long i have them in the drawer..?
It would serve your seeds to keep them as mentioned above but add some desiccant to the container, those are those packages shipped along with optics and electronics to keep moisture away from sensitive items.
Biggest enemy to a seed's ability to remain dormant is heat, oxygen and water, which is ironically what you would need to sprout them again. Avoid the fridge or freezer till your seeds are properly dried. We all know what happens to water in the freezer. Water is the only known non-metallic substance to expand when it freezes.
The the polarity of water while freezing causes hydrogen bonding during the state of change from liquid to a solid. This causes the molecules geometry to flatten out and increase in volume thus inversely reducing it's density causing ice to float.
You don't want excessive moisture in your seeds to freeze, expand, and crack the protective outer shell of the seed.
15+ no problem if stored right.sprouted seeds from 20 years ago a bit back. I don't use dessicant with my seeds . their dry enough when stored. sprouted some from beginning of cw days a few days ago. how long its been since og and cw went down or when they started? stoner memory lol
I use a mason jar with some rice at the bottom. My seeds are out of breeders packs and are put into Eppendorf 5mL tubes with dessicant beads mixed with the seeds.
The jar then goes in the crisper drawer of my fridge.
I normally leave newly acquired seeds out a couple days before putting them through the above process.
