WELCOME TO "A TASTE OF AFRICA - SIERRA LEONE"

Pretty sure this is my first thread on here, so here we go folks.
This is inspired by @Zanddar and his "A Taste of Africa from Malawi" and @dubi African work.

QUICK SUMMARY:
My family is from Sierra Leone, West Africa. Africa is well known for unique cultivars, cerebral/trippy highs, and hard to find gems.
In Sierra Leone Ganja is called "Djamba" kinda like pot, or weed. I am able to acquire djamba seeds from local farms in the various villages that grow for rec, profit, medicine, and agricultural reasons.

SEEDS
My first stock of seeds will be what I am told is a 3-month flowering variety. I am able to acquire longer flowering varieties, but they sent me the "90 day" given my growing conditions here in Upstate NY. Excited to see what these seeds have to offer. I will post pics in a few hours to give yall some visuals and give this thread continuity. This will also serve as my grow log, haha...so join along.

OBJECTIVE:
At this point, my goal is to explore the seeds I have. I got sent enough seeds to last me the rest of my life...will be sharing with growers that enjoy African genetics once I get some grows in and etc. I want to see what varieties, pros/cons, unicorns, and all in between are in these seeds before finding a keeper/or keepers. Untapped genetic potential. Limited on space to a certain degree as I will be in a 4x4 flower and 3x3 veg tens indoors. Sent some of these to a grower/breeder with commercial space, so will be sharing his findings as they come in.

More to come soon.

Rearranged my veg and flower tents. Still have to finish the flower area but everything is pretty well good to go. The plants are currently in Coast of Maine starter soil. Will be transplanting both veg and flower plants into my own living soil from this summer and some newly made and amended. All Sierra Leonean plants will be given water and compost teas. Simplicity is key here. I'm not a master grower, just love the flower and want to get better over time. This will be my 4th indoor run. First 2 were funky at best. Last one I was lazy. This one I want to actually give a damn and take something away for my next run.

Making flower compost tea tonight for 36-48 hrs. Will be adding and making a test recipe inspired by Duke Diamond, Dragonfly Earth Medicine, Coot, Dr. Ingham, and recipes shared here on ICMAG. Standard bacterial/fungal inputs and all that jazz.

Tent setup at the moment:

Tent 1 - Veg (Day 1)
- (6) Sierra Leonean
-150W LED
-Temp: ~72 - 75 degrees
-Humidity: ~70%

Tent 2 - Flower (Day 1)
- (2) Sierra Leonean
- 300W LED
-Temp: ~70 - 72 degrees (adjusted weekly)
-Humidity: ~ 55-60 (dialing in still ..will see)

In your first Post the 4th pic:
my meditation tells me thats quiet ok! and i rarely like any modern collected varieties, it looks smooth .

Is it own collection, or african Seeds company?

I'm looking at putting these babies in 1-2gal pots. Ran a SL male a couple months ago in a 1.5/2 from seed that loved a heavy feed followed by nothing until he showed me signs that he wanted more.Had to play and dial in.

This may be great for sldiscussion......

Any of you grow African landraces in living soil? This may be strain dependant, but how, what, and when do you feed/water your landrace plants?

Not sure why AFC tag came up, but no. These are from farmers from Sierra Leone. No western influence genetics or grow wise.

Interesting thread. Good luck with the project...look forwards to seeing what you can find Plasma Tube.

Regarding your feed and water questions with African genetics....I suppose itl probably be strain dependant....but i found most good pure landrace africans ive delt with generally dont like feed and dont drink much.... Some decent soil and a drink as your pot is drying I found kept them in good health... Too much water or unrequired feed gave issues to the plants....Hope that helps some.

QUICK UPDATE:

1 day short of a week in flower for tent 2. Plants got put into 1.5 gal pots a few days ago. Looking healthy and happy so far.

Tent 1 is coming along nice with the seedlings. Out of the 7 I started with 4 look the healthiest. The remainders will be tossed today, and replaced with healthier and more productive seeds. The 4 that look good, are solid.

Got more info on more seed varieties I can get my hands on. Was told by the grower overseas that besides the 3mo flowering plant they have a 6 mo flower?! I can't imagine numbers like that. Granted thats equatorial outdoor. Wonder how those will do indoors? One way to find out. Will be receiving those seeds in the future for future research and grows.

Will update with more pics later today.

Great and accurate observation. Most seeds are a bit bigger than avg. Hope that translates to fire flower. 6 mo flowering may have to be done by someone with space, and ideal conditions. Would love to see them at their fullest. Will work on getting pictures from Sierra Leone sometime soon.

Day 21/Week 3 of Flower

Been lagging on updates. Busy with life and family, but plants are still going. As of today, the heights are measuring at 57 cm for Djamba #1 and 65 cm for Djamba #2. #2 started showing signs of sex a couple days ago and it's a female. Pretty certain D#1 is female as well but will see. D#2 has gotten 9cm taller since last week.

Both are taking well to compost tea. Monday is the next feed and I'll be doing the P a little bit. They seem to take what they get and don't show any issues. Took snips of each for clones. Both are in with Sour Diesel cuts which are flowering and doing well. The smell is starting to kick in just a touch on them. Lemony, citrus, bright....not musky or dank yet.

Tent#1
As of today I'm getting rid of 4 young Sierra Leone plants that show mutation. Keeping 2. One that's structurally perfect. No mutations, no color issues, it's perfect. The other is a best and mutated, haha.

At a cross roads. I really want to pop Ace Malawi, Killer A5, A5, Vietnamese Black, and or Congo. Maybe 6 total at the most. Want to have something trippy around. Besides that popping Sierra Leonean seeds and looking for the same Spoke with folks over at the motherland. More seeds incoming, specifically longer flowering varieties. Would love to sample the herb itself a la import style....hmm...

More to come

These guys seem to be doing some excellent work with landraces. Including some of those those much sought after rarer (and racier) African types. Also a range of ME types as well. Good clips and info right through their video posts. Well worth a look for the curious and the dedicated. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOdHLumgDosIK9uyP4dzHyg

On 12/22 I mixed 50/50 perlite and vermiculite as a cloning medium. These are roots from about 30 mins ago. Pretty happy, as I wasn't holding my breath on this.

Original Upstate Sour D aka Weasel Cut.

Going to do the same with the Sierra Leonean.
