A question about rootbound plants

I have some very large type plants growing in 25 gallon fabric containers. They have been outdoors since April. I think they will outgrow their pots. Do I need to re pot? Any suggestions

they will def out grow those pots. more soil, the better. id use at least 200 gallons. 400-800 would be optimal. as far as how well they do will all depend on location/amount of direct sun/soil quality/training ect.. good luck man

OK so I'll try to sink the pots 8 inches. The roots will grow thru the pots? Next year maybe I'll try for the 200+. Thanks

A good representative photo of what can be achieved with smaller pots is posted by user vapedg13. In a mere 6.5 qts., he grows about a 3' plant that is fully packed with dense buds. That's indoors and I am sure he keeps the soil moist. I see no reason why your plants wouldn't do just fine in a 25 gallon fabric pot as long as you can keep the soil moist.

These 200, 400, and even 800 gallon pots I see people using...it's overkill. It's not like they are growing a 25' banana tree in an arboretum over a period of years.

Overkill? I take it you've never seen a 20' plant before. If you can pull 10 or more lbs off one plant in anything less than 400 gallons of soil, then i'll side with you. Until then, do some research. My girls fill out an 800 no problem.

I took these pictures 10 days ago. These 3 girls are in 400's. Tts now only the second week of June and they have already touches the sides. Does this look like overkill? You won't even be able to see those pots come august. .

So, I was following what container size do I need to grow a pound, which brought me to the 25 gallon. I wasn't thinking about the roots. I got a 15x15 space so I put like six 25's in it. Well I'm probably not going to be able to transplant to a 200+, but maybe. . I've seen large plants in like 10's or 15 so maybe they'll make it. I'll look for a vapedg13 post and give lots of water. And try the bury 8 inches . As long as it doesn't interfere with flowering

If you're only shooting for a lb or so, you can manage that in a 25. I would maybe suggest a little much cover on top of you soil to try and retain some moisture. You may find yourself watering very frequently but if you can keep your roots fed and moist, that should be obtainable. Especially if you till your naive soil bury them in the ground a bit. If you go that route may I also suggest you add a few amendments the ground soil as well. Good luck man! Put some pics up too!

That is correct, there is no way in hell anybody in my area could get away with plants that large. I guess I have just seen too many pics of people with 5' finished plants in these giant fabric pots...

Earlier today I went to my place to see if I could bury my pots, but the pots were extremely difficult to move. I noticed that roots had grown through the bottom of the pot into the ground. So, I may just leave them how they are. Maybe give some fertilizer to the ground? Couldn't get pictures. I'll post some tommorow night. Plants are growing more tall than wide
