A little iso oil, anyone?

Hey guys, just thought I'd throw up a pic or two of some quick wash iso oil i made a couple days ago. I used a bunch of shake and small nugs, and a little bit of dried trim that didn't make it into the bubblebags last time. Questions and comments are always welcome!

That color is amazing. I always do a 45 second wash with 99% and its always much greener, but I only use trimm. What strain?

Smokin on that serious...
VERY nice iso

how long did you let it soak? what percent iso? did you quick dry it or let it evaporate naturally?

What's up guys. Yes, this is iso, not bho, even though it looks a lot like some bho that i've seen. The material used was a mix of shake and small nugs of several different strains, stuff that wouldn't have returned much if anything in the bubble bags. I use 99% isopropyl alcohol:

I do a VERY quick wash, usually 15 seconds max of rolling the jar around to coat everything. Then I strain out the plant material through a paper towel or a coffee filter, and evaporate it in a glass pyrex dish over a big pot of hot water. I also usually do a second run where I may soak the material for up to a minute, to get whatevers left from the first run without getting things too green and nasty. Gotta love amber colored iso!

im curious how u got that shape?

i like to do secondary 'pulls' in seperate collection plates
quality isnt as great as the 1st run, but still does the job.
you are wasting lots by only going 45 seconds, IMHO.
2-3 minutes in contact with the solvent is when it starts to get icky, IME.
nice pics, thx for sharing :)

Just to clarify, thats a pic of a 15 wash with bad buds and good trim?

Not exactly. It IS a 15 second wash, but with shake (left over leaves and tiny buds at the end of a sack), and not BAD buds, just small buds, that sometimes have a lot of stem on them. Hardly any trim used, because most of my trim goes to the bubble bags.

First, that shape is from taking a big chunk, then slowly heating it with my hands and pressing it with my fingers until it's about 1-2 millimeters thick. As far as the second run, my technique has evolved along with my overall technique. I used to do a LONG (5-10 minutes) soak and shake the hell out of it to make sure I got everything, and it always came out dark green and runny. Then I read that chlorophyll and plant waxes start to dissolve in the alcohol after a little while, and I kept shortening the time with each run. Quality kept getting better, with no significant loss in average yield. The way I do the second run now it comes out dark brown, not dark green, and totally solid at room temperature.

One other point to make is that after the first wash, the plant material is still wet with alchohol, even though it's not soaking. I believe that at least some reaction is still going on while you wait to do the second wash, so it's not exactly the same as a simple 45 second wash at this point. Kind of like it's got a head start. Keep the questions coming guys!

what kinda weight? trim to goodies?

Didn't measure exactly, but I would say between 14-21 grams of shake (not trim) and small buds in, and the first run was about a gram, the second run about 2-3 grams.

where do you get the 99%?

I get mine at Vons/Safeway/Pavillions, which are grocery stores all owned by the same company.

As far as the taste and the high, the taste can be really good, as long as you don't soak very long. The high is always quite potent, about as strong as anything I've come across including bubble hash. It depends a little on your starting material, because just like with any other concentrate method, final quality is influenced by starting quality.
