A little heating/thermostat help please

hi there every1, Basically i need to get this heater into the growroom now because of how cold it is. I have this heater

and this heating thermostat

Dont worry i didnt blow up its meant to come apart lol,
Now basically i need to wire the stat to the heater and put a plug on the end of the flex to plug into the power..
these are the instructions with the stat

it is this middle diagram for this model of stat

Now im just not sure how to translate it into wires lol, at a glance i would guess that the thing shaped like a whistle, connecting on the diagram to the neutral wire and the port marked 2, well i think this is the heater?? obviously im not going to wire all this up with guesses so any1 who can translate it into what i need to do to connect it to the flex on the heater(heat resistant 3 core) so that the stat turns the heater on and off when appropriate, please feel free to chime in
To me now it looks like from the plug end the blue neutral wire should go to a strip connector and have a second piece of blue connected to it, then one piece going to number 4, and the other going to the heater, and another blue piece from where it connects to the heater, going to number 2 on the stat. The red live from the plug end straight to number 1, and the earth just straight from the plug to the heater without hitting the stat at all...
Im not going to attempt any wiring at all until i know its right so if any1 knows please post... Im i the uk so it needs to be someone who knows uk electrics.
Thank you guys.

Ok the wiring diagram looks simple enough, but you should wait for some more responses instead of directly taking my advice.

Nuetral (N) (WHITE/BLUE) from the POWER CORD and THE HEATER gets connect to #4.
Live (L) (HOT/BLACK/RED) from the POWER CORD gets connected to # 1
VAC INPUT (LIVE) of THE HEATER gets connected to #2

Hey Harry, Pontiac has got it (that sounds familiar...)

A couple things:

L stands for Line.

Although the diagram shows the "wires" spliced together, keep in mind that this is an electrical schematic of a circuit, not a physical wiring diagram. The dot connect merely shows these two wires are connected somewhere. It is shown where it is for neatness of diagram. The connection can and should be on the #4 screw, as Pontiac indicated. These are both neutrals and are connected together.

You'll notice the other crossover (line over neutral) has no dot and therefore these wires are not connected. Sometimes this is indicated with a "U" as if one wire is hopping over the other.

Happy warm plants time!

Just to clarify... the earth doesnt touch the thermostat at all right, ?

now, what do you thnk the best way of going about it is? Wire one length to the plug, the correct length from the power source to the site im mounting the thermostat. and then another length measured from the heater ,mounting site to the thermostat,.Wire the correct live and neutral to the correct numbers, then join the earths behind the stat with strip conector. Or use a continuous pice of flex with the heater at one end the plug(EDITED from stat) at the other, then only cut the live and neutral, wiring them appropriately and leaving the earth in tact?
Which do you think would be better if theres theres any difference at all?
Sorry to be a fussy twat i just want to get it right 1st time.
Thanks again

Hey,

I don't see a connection for earth on the thermostat or in the schematic. Is there a green wire in the heater cord? If only two wire, then wire the black of the power cord to screw #1. Connect the black of the heater cord to screw #2.

Twist together the two whites and connect to screw #4. All the cords go to the thermostat which is mounted on the wall.

If there is a green (earth) in the heater cord, connect to green of power cord. If not, either use two wire power cord or cut off green wire flush with cord jacket.

What brand and model is that heater?

I saw your post in the age thread and I hear ya. I always hung around older people myself when I was younger. Now, all kinds. I have a very good friend who is 65, thirty years my elder, but you'd never know, especially when the rum starts flowin...

Hi mate, right ive heard back from both the shop i got this from and the manufacturer. the shop emailed me coz i mailed them complaining theyd sent me two heating thermostats instead of a heating and a cooling, well it turns out this can do both jobs like the honeywell i actually ordered,
the wiring is
Live from power to 1
Live from heater goes to number 2, with the neutral at 4 and the earths joined together. For cooling the power out(the one to the heater/fan) goes to number 3
so my friends you were right....thanks guys....
Now i can do the thermo speedo fan controller too...yippeeeee lol.
The heater is just an 80 watt tubular heater, it doesnt have a make or model number. this one is made by hylite heat and light Ltd. I need to make a guard from fencing mesh to put in front of this because they get really hot to touch. I chose this because they are economical to run and cheap to buy they go up in wattage but the more powerful they are the longer they are. I did see one with a guard included but i woirked out the price and they were charging as much for the guard as the heater so bollocks to that ill knock one together lol.
Be lucky now
