A Fish Tale

If you've never tried any of Neptune's Harvest products, you're missing a real treat. Their fish is "Cold Processed" to keep in all the good stuff that would otherwise be boiled away. 2-3-1 Fish/Seaweed and 2-4-1 Fish are awesome foods for flowering plants. And, they don't stink like fish emulsion.

Seaweed is a great source of micro/macro nutes your plants need. It's full of Potassium as well. Foliar feeding will work quickly in the event of deficiencies.

Humate Concentrate is a new product. It would be an excellent form of humic acids to add to your roots at feeding time and is a great way to wet your blood/bone/kelp mixes.

Organic pest control is another offer. Garlic Barrier should keep those nasty spider mites at bay indoors along with other pests when growing outdoors. You can spray it directly on the plants in the early veg stage to chase away pests. Then use around the base of the plant and along the perimeter of your grow room in flower. Don't spray this product on the buds and leaves of a flowering plant though. Prevention is the key here.

Kelp Meal is always useful in any organic soil mix.

Neptunes are some of the best organic fish poop you can get. I love em! Havent used the Humic acis from them though.

But I like my Maxi-crop seaweed though. Might have to give theirs a go.

Good information B1

Interesting. I have never heard of that garlic product. How does it compare to neem oil? The liquid humate looks good too, I'll have to pick some up after I go through the humic acid ore.

Peace.

Neem oil covers the pests body and causes them to suffocate. The garlic repels the pest so they never get on the plant to start with.

Yeah, 1 tsp./gal sounds about right. Check the label on the bottle for info. Use as directed.

BurnOne,
Good thread, my friend....A little N added to the Neptune's and it makes a good veg fertilizer.....Maybe about 1/4-1/2 dose of Hi N guano and let it sit for about 24 hrs....LC

Yeah, that's what I do. I like alfalfa tea as well.
Great to see you back, Man.

Neptune's Harvest make good products indeed . . . we featured the 2-4-1 fish fert as one of the nutes we used in the old Growing LUI with the 3LB . . . and we still swear by it today . . .

because fish ferts are a natural fertilizer . . . we always shake the bottle well before use to make shre there's no settling . . . so we can add for certain that it's important to make sure that lid's well screwed down . . . while the Neptune's Harvest fish fert may not smell as bad as fish emulsion . . . it'll still draw the neighborhood cat population if sprayed around the grow area by accident!

btw - also make sure to always replace the lid on your fish ferts . . . in an overmedicated stupor we once left an open bottle of Neptunes Harvest on a table . . . apparently we had a fungus gnat or two present . . . because we discovered fungus gnats just LOVE to frolic and breed in fish ferts!~

thats awesome as i just picked up 2-4-1 fish fertilizer at my local garden shop the otherday, i never used organics before and this stuff looked like it was i have been needing for a long time, plus it was super cheap at 6 bucks for the 18oz bottle, this will last me a long time.

how often should i feed with this?

i started using it at a 1/4 strength to see what it does and they responded heavily to it, will this stuff burn at full strength?

1/4 strength seems reasonable for small plants. you can tell if it needs nutrients when the cotyledon starts turning yellow, then start at lower doses and build your way up to the reccomended dose and you're good to go.

Also with the alfalfa tea do you ferment or aerate your tea? The only recipes I can find are really stinky and fermented but apparently rose growers swear by it.

Yeah, I don't use any fish products personally. Indoors fungus gnats are unmanageable and outdoors it attracts too many animals.

Yeah...like bears. Did you ever see a garden that a bear went through looking for the fish? What a mess...lol.

I once placed the carcasses from a batch of bluegills (panfish. Carcasses cause I needed the fillets to make a tasty sandwich) under some tomatoes as I was planting them outside. These plants really took off and never once did I smell fish. The nutrition seemed to last quite a while as well.

Didn't Indians use to plant their corn seeds directly into a small fish and then into the ground?

although we'd never heard the version he tells . . . of planting the seeds directly into the fish . . . as Simpleton already pointed out . . . it's fairly common Indian lore that some tribes used a fish buried directly in soil to nurture crops such as corn . . .

fungus gnats do seem to love fish ferts . . . but there's a simple solution to that problem . . . mix one part diatomaceous earth with 3 or 4 parts dry soil mix and top dress all plants . . . the DE in the mix kills gnats and makes using fish ferts indoors not a problem at all . . .

outdoors . . . a wide variety of omnivores including bears and raccoons are quite attracted to fishy odors . . . so they are a little less practical in that venue . . . as somone already pointed out . . . a visit from a large critter like a bear is quite unwelcome . . .

i still feed a few fish emulsion feeds...once or twice in bloom......my closet grow has the sok and it could actaully handle figured good old fish emulsion would be the ultimate test for the new carbon soks to see if worthy.......plus they use some organic acid to break down the fish.so 1 ml to 5 gallon rez will drop your ph down a few points especailly the bloom pink bootle.works great so you dont have to buy ph down
