a/c problem

i have a 2.5kw portable ac and it works kind of strange...
it is turning on and off every 10 minutes no matter how low i set the desired temperature
atm it is 90f and i have set the ac thermostat at 70f
but it does not run all the time
could the ac generator overheat and could that cause the switch offs?
i hear the generator when it goes on and of and it is turning on and off every few minutes..

what could be the problem?

Yes the Compressor will overheat if the condenser coil doesn't have adequate air flow.
The condenser coil is the one with the warm exhaust air flowing over it. Was it ever properly working?

is it vented right out of a window?
they do not recommend using a exhaust hose any longer than the one that comes with it.
i bought one of these POS' and had to hook an inline fan up to the exhaust being my grow was near no windows.
also they don't work well in a direct heat source (lighting)
overall, these things suck, already sold the 13,000btu unit i bought last summer.
i used it for 2 months in my grow, never got below 90 degrees F.
big waste of my hard earned money!

Yes....portables are shit. That is the exact problem with them and would of been my diagnosis. You will probably need to add a fan like Cocktail Frank was suggesting.

yeah , it is vented with its original hose out the window :/
i know the portable acs are shitty but i cant install the split system because of the obvious reason :D
i cant have a worker installing the ac in my grow room :D

you can drop $ on self installable split systems, they're pre-charged and all that. not to hard to put in. i think DeLonghi makes a self installable split.

if installation is your worry and you shelled out for a big portable like that, get a split. you can even place the compressor/whatever in a hallway, out the back door, wherever the hose will reach, and vent that if you need to. that part isn't that quiet though, but you're in the wrong room if that's the case.

yeah i already done a search on self installable split systems but there aren't any in the country where i live :(

You cant get one imported? Mini Splits are the SHIT ! Mitsubishi makes them too. Pre charged lines are what your looking for, along with the right freon to work in your climate. I think a window shaker boxed in with a fan will work way better than any stupid portable p.o.s a/c. A/C+Wheels=SHIT

thanks :)

the model number is ACP-09PT25CH vivax

i was asleep for a few hours and i think the ac worked all the time becouse the temp. was ok when i woke up :)

i think the problem was in the hose that was not mounted properly :)

maybee so it does not have the energy saver...seems like a nice little unit though...my personal opinion portable ac eat co2 out of the room...i think thats because they sit on the ground where the heavier gas floats to and are sucked up by the unit...i suggest people with portables to pick them up off the ground
