Be great for a central unit, but not so great for an indoor grow.
It would require a whole lot of sealed up box and drain.

thats what its for. the rest of my house is cooled by central air.

That thing is awesome and I've got all the materials to make one.
If it can drop my electric bill by 30% that equals out to about $96.00 a month for me.
I can run another 2500 to 3000 watts if this claim is true.
I sure would like another 3 or 4 pounds per grow!

Howsit work? We only get dial up on the mountain. Im waitin for it to upload.
Basically, it's a mister system that is activated by a lightweight flap that is attached to the top grill of the condenser unit (think float valve). When the fan/ac is activated, the fan blows the flap up allowing water to flow through the unit and out the misters where it is then sucked into the a/c, thereby pre-cooling the a/c.

This is a very nifty 'il gadget. Worth the watch. I suggest all dial-up users be patient and let it load.

i swear to god i was thinking of doing something like this last night. My idea was a little crude and it involved a garden hose. Bastards stole my idea :D

Right now it is so HOT outside, the A/C cant get the house lower than 76-78 during the day. Its my understanding the A/C cant lower the temp more than so many degrees, and since its so hot outside, it just cant cool the house. Would this mister idea help with that as well?

Someone mentioned humidity. I am pretty sure on a central A/C this has no affect as the outside unit just cools the gas and does not use any outside air. I imagine the same applies for a wall unit. If you misted the sides, where the intake is, it would cool the coils and probably wouldnt affect humidity.

So how do we DIY? To me the big thing is the valve? How do we rig up this valve to turn on and off?

I am so ready to do this, I am like 3 clicks away from just ordering one. I have 2 units, maybe I should buy one and DIY the other for a test??

They can be ordered here: https://store.coolnsave.com/ for $99. Once someone figures out the parts to use, a diy should be easy. I think I'll go to the 99 cent store today and see what they have. Some kind of plastic paddle seems right up their alley.

i used to hose the condensor off with the hose, and it would get REAL COLD... the misters is awsome idea, thoes condensors get hella hot! anything to cool them down helps!!!

someone could probably put a trigger thingie on the main power for the a/c condesor and use it to open a silanoid to turn the water on.

It's really simple. Just use some sort of float valve as Even said. Attach a flapper or piece of plastic (I think a paddle ball paddle will be a bit heavy) to the float valve then connect a 4 way splitter to the float. Attach the float valve to a hose, add a few 1/4" lines to the splitter and add some misters to the end of each line.
I'm sure it would need some tweaking but you get the general idea.

more money would be saved on electricity

but...

more money would be spent on water

cool idea though

True, but water is SOOO much cheaper than electricity.
Plus it doesn't look like it will use that much water, it is coming from mister heads...

Thought the video said like 1.4gallons a day, so it's nothing compared to saving 30% off electric. Hell, most of us would be thrilled saving 15-20%.

I might rig a couple of those amusement park style personal misters up just to try it for a while. With a tiny bit of plumbing and a small res. overhead, you could have those run a couple days to weeks with no attention needed.

Any A/C techs here?

I had an A/C tech say this would be bad for the unit. Something about head pressure, plus all the chlorine would be bad

Thats why the guy hooked up that little inline carbon filter, takes care of the chlorine and chloramines. Not sure what he means about head pressure.

The water only runs when the ac unit is running and then it's only 1.4 gph misters.

Head pressure? What's this about?
