Summer is coming. After trying a portable air conditioner, and not being able to justify a mini split for a tent, I decided that an a/c box was the way to go. This has been done before and there are a couple of threads on it, but this project was an attempt at a clean slate.
This is a 12,000 btu window a/c that sits in basically a wooden tray. The tray is waterproofed with a can of HF truck bed liner and can have a drain installed if necessary. The top sits on top of the tray, enclosing the back of the a/c. Securing the top or tape sealing it does not seem to be necessary. Sitting on top are two 8" 870 cfm fans.
Today was the first trial run with all indications looking good. Air flow through the condenser seems to be adequate with the exhaust air warm but not hot once the a/c is stabilized in full cooling mode. Noise levels were very acceptable. More testing will be done with the ducting installed before cutting a hole in the side of the 5x9 Gorilla tent.
