92++ Res temps....help with chiller size

Hey everyone...some advice plz

My res is looking more like a jacuzzi cause the temps are just getting higher!
Im running a high pressure system and the pump is putting out to much heat, one night of 30/360 cycle and me temps pass 90 deg!. This is the only thing thats keeping me from completing the system.

My rig is not that big, I have a 8gal res and another 8 gal at the plants. I need the final temps to be around 75.

15-20 degree drop, for 20-30 gal.
What size for the water chiller do you recommend??

Thankx

You could always acquire an external pump as opposed to a magnetic drive that is submersible and utilizes the reservoir water for cooling. Go to HarborFreight.com, search keyword: transfer pumps. They cost about 30 bucks and are air cooled. I utilized one of their pumps when running hydro-----------worked like a champ.

Hope this is helpful to you,

Ty Stik

PS: Your reservoir volume can be greater than the tray capacity, no reqm't that it be 8 gallons.

Thanx for the tips...

Although some questions:

Any brand recommendation?
I looked at the JBJ nano arctica and it looks good, although its 1/20, theres a 1/15 but for the same price I get an ecoplus 1/10.
Have any reviews on Jbj and ecoplus chillers?

Ty this is the pump im using, its the only one I found that had the specifications I needed. Im in Colombia so theres no online commerce, although next time I'll go through import hassles and get the right stuff. This bitch is hot and noisy!!

That pump of yours is almost identical to the one I had and it serviced twin reservoirs. They were around 40 gallons each and fed 4 3x3 trays. Heat wasn't an issue given the storage volume.

I had an ecoplus 1/4 hp and it worked like a champ, I personally like the drop in chillers but they cost quite a bit more.

Just what I needed...
Thanks again!
This pump is completely overkill for my system....but its good enough and ready for a bigger crop.

Im going to increase my reservoir and see what happens....the bad thing is things are going to get crampier.
The ecoplus 1/10 is my choice then, its about 350 delivered and 100 delivered to colombia, damm expensive shipping...but vital. The other thing i that Im thinkin of sacrificing my veg space for a bigger resrvoir.

Thnx

ecoplus 1/10 hp will chill 30 gallons 10 deg's with a 185gph eco plus pump..... when used a bigger pump it dose the same... i went down to 20 gallon rez and it did about 12 deg's this chiller even has a output to run a heater if it gets to cold. the temp display on it is 3 deg's off of a tri-meter a digi temp reader from a fish store is dead center of them both.... i have 4 of the chillers and they all work within 1 deg of each other....

try hard lineing that pump i belive your heating up from running 1' pvc to flex hose..... when you run flex hose on the input of a exturnl pump it will suck the hose together.....losing you gpm and couse heat....

that pump looks just like the HF ones... i had one of them for about 8 months and it jammed up on me there not made for saltwater.... if you want a good one go look at the ones made for saltwater a lot of fish stores have them....

Awesome. Thanks for your input. I have a 15gal reservoir so a 1/15 hp should be fine. Thanks`

If you're truly in Columbia then it's fall and things will only get cooler. Oversizing a res is always a good idea for various reasons. I like ebb & flo hydro systems. Then you're on 4 feed cycles per 'on' light cycle and you don't need to run any feed cycles at 'night'. So...you have more res volume than you need so it becomes like a heat sink and you can absorb some heat from the medium and as the room and medium heats up your light cycle is done then the res is warm. Then you have 12 hours to chill the res down. A 1/10 hp should be fine but a 1/4 would be better cause if there's overheating the 1/4 will EASILY keep things under control which is more of an issue during the heat of summer.

Ecoplus is fine.

Something like that...

EDIT - for that size res a 1/10 will be fine except maybe if running DWC but never ran DWC...thought about it a lot but E&F works just dandy. WIth E&F you can also get away with higher res temps. Know some people that said 78 was fine but always shot for 68.
