So i been using scrog for a few years but setting up a new room. I got 9 plants all in 4 gal pots with coco on timed dtw. So would i get a better yield by scrogging than by just topping and letting them get to decent size?

I ask becuz after this run ill be doing a new strainfrom seed and cant scrog becuz i need to pick a pheno to mother. And would be a pain to build a scrog for this run then remove it for next. So how will my yield suffer not scrogging ?

Thnx

Its my first run with this light thats why new room

Thnx again . Any advice would b great

At 9 plants per 4x4 space there won't be much to scrog really. Scrog is usually to make less plants fill a larger space. For those size plants I'd be thinking tomato cages maybe. I trellis or stake, or both, every time. 9per light is a good way to get great yields without much training. To me scrog is just to keep plant numbers down and isn't necessarily a high yield technique, as it takes longer to veg and that means less flowering cycles per year. I've found It can improve yields of more lanky cultivars that have nodes spaced further apart. I have a friend that runs 40-50 plants a light sog style but my fave for yield and easy maintenance is 9 or 16. I can't run those kind of numbers so I usually have 4-6, but I've had single 2lb trees as well under a kw hps. You will do great!! Have fun, good luck:)

Ok thnx. Ya i wasnt shur. I been running critical mass mr nice and thats what im doing now. But the next strain im starting from seed is ghost train haze #1 . I wont be abble to scrog the first run cuz give or take six females from a 12 pack i need to flower all to find what pheno i want. But ill prolly do 9 per 4x4 in scrog once i get a pheno an mom/clone it. From what i read its VERY lanky

I always scrog. It started due to having height restrictions inside. Managing the canopy gives you a good excuse to get in tight and take a good look at your plants. Making decisions about which branches stay or go, and where you want them on the screen can give you a perspective on the plant that would otherwise be easy to overlook if you just watered and moved on. i love the look of a tightly managed canopy. When you get familiar with the setup you have and the strain you are running every square inch of available light will have beautiful tops. Make yourself a couple of screens to keep everything tall and proud. In a 4x4 I would do 4 plants in 2 gallon pots. It depends on whether you are going to give them time under the screen to run a bit or pull something out of a veg room and flip. I like to veg under the screens for at least a week getting the stems used to horizontal. I always pull my seedlings over in veg using wire hooks. I drill small holes at the top of the plastic pots. I have small wire cutters and a spool of light wire I keep handy and bend hooks to gently pull branches over in preparation for being under the screen in a few weeks.Good luck
