yeah mang..........its a common prob with these mag whores we love to grow. I have always used calmag plus but I see alot of peeps talking bout the sensi cal grow(only) and I may go with it.

you're making people nervous, quit it! ;)
You did not seem like a sensi-salesman to me before.

Anyways, just tell 'em to better observe their pH, i guess *that* causes most problems... exept for "i have this 20-20-20 Nute, should i double the dose?"-related probs

right, too much input into my head right now, sleep well (our did the brave citizens of the USA just arise?)

holy shit

i agree... most of my problems, especially with the hashberry and the OG's have been cal mag related.....

I can atest that Digital is not a AN salesman LOL..... but have you seen what AN does for his room!!!!! :headbange:

hmmm............i'm not so sure. "Add Calmag, add Calmag" seems to be a bit of a mantra on ICMag. On the UK boards if there is ANY problem with a grow (including electrical) you'll get a whole heap of kiddies telling you to empty a box of Epsom Salts (MagSulphate) into your res. Whereas i've been growing supadank shit for years with regular nutes, in areas with diff water quality, and have never needed to extra calcium and magnesium.
I'm not saying that all, or every, diagnosis of Cal/Mg deficiency is wrong.
But there is an element of groupthink going on here

I did add to one thread about having to use CalMag-Plus when using RO water with a soil less mix or hydro if you're using PBP Bloom. Both are Botanicare products & you don't use one without the other or at the least replace with a suitable product as it does say to add it on the label. A pH pen would not help there if you don't follow the instructions of the nutrients. I don't pH but I do add Epsom salt to my soil soil less pots.

What I don't understand is why anyone growing in a soilless medium needs bottled cal/mag products. Dolomite is like what, 5 bucks for a 50lb sack?

i didnt know thats what dolomite is for...

but over the last 3-4 years of growing my own experiance tells me cal/mag defs are common...
im NO AN salesmen, but if u know any additive that has everything from boron, to zinc, in one cheap bottle, let me know...and if your using RO, as i think you should, then your going to be missing alot of secondary minerals besids the cal/mag, that just might help them. ive used cal-mag many times, and i notice it fixes the problem, but logic would dictate its not going to work aswell.

PH is another problem, locking out cal/mag but again, IME its still just not there in large enough quantities to satisfy marijuana. GH 3 part, GH nova series, CANNA A&B, even AN's own sensi grow dosent have enough CAL/mag...

maybe its not 9/10 maybe more like 6or7/10.... :rasta:

with cal-mag I still run into the mag problems so I may run the sensi for a spell and see if it can help a bit,oh and this is with all canna nutes

Id have to agree. IME a lot of strains eat up mg/N like nothin, and is the most common def I see.

I'm having a magnesium deficiency... I'm running an Aeroflo20 with 16 plants and am on day 30 of flowering. The pH has been solid at 5.8 - 5.9 for a while and otherwise looking pretty good (except for a bit of powdery mildew, which I treated with GreenCure fungicide).

I just started using cal-mag a couple of rez changes ago, but am still having magnesium deficiencies. I have seen recommendations ranging from a 1/4 tsp to a full tsp of Epsom salt per gallon of water- what would be an appropriate amount to use for my system?

Thanks,
Matt

Not if they're growing in soil, ph is rarely ever a problem in soil as most soil is self buffering. ie soil will come with it's own ph value, usually around 6.5 and it's going to take an awful lot of out of whack ph water/nutrient solution to make that soil ph move one way or the other by the time it does move out of range it's time to harvest.

Most Mg problems are caused by two things - 1) Water quality. Too much TDS can lockout Mg from the soil substrate. Too little TDS contains too little Mg for fast growing Canna plants. 2) The plant simply uses Mg faster than it can be resupplied either by the soil substrate or nutrient feed.

This is why many people use some dolomite lime/calcified seaweed in their soil mix, to slow release Mg into the soil and/or use a maintenance top up dose of epsom salts either via a root drench or foliar spray just before flowering and about 3 weeks in.

Everyone seems to point at ph as the likely cause of problems and it rarely ever is in soil.
